Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.), dubbing a victory in the first primary essential for his hopes of defeating former President Trump in the 2024 GOP primary.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIowa is do or die. He\u2019s putting a lot of effort there,\u201d Rove said in a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/tv\/iowa-is-do-or-die-karl-rove-claims-desantis-needs-a-victory-in-iowa-for-his-campaign-to-survive\/\">Fox News interview Saturday<\/a>. \u201cHe has the support of the popular governor, Kim Reynolds. He won the support of a key leader in the evangelical community, Vander Plaats.\u201d<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cAnd yeah, he\u2019s got to run,\u201d he continued. \u201cIf he comes in third in Iowa, it\u2019s very problematic for him because it doesn\u2019t get better for him in the next two sets of contests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis has put most of his campaign resources in the Hawkeye State as the Jan. 15 caucus draws near, raising hopes that he could down Trump \u2014 the campaign\u2019s favorite \u2014 and set up a path to the nomination.<\/p>\n<p>Stopping Trump in Iowa is key to letting a DeSantis path open, his campaign wrote in a leaked memo early this month.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone can universally agree that if Trump were to win big in Iowa it would create <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> and political momentum for his candidacy that would be difficult to stop heading into New Hampshire,\u201d the memo read, according to The Associated Press.<\/p>\n<p>The governor has already received the influential endorsements of Iowa Governor Reynolds and evangelical leader Bob Vander Plaats.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think America would be well served to have a choice, and I really believe Ron DeSantis should be that guy,\u201d Vander Plaats said Tuesday. \u201cAnd I think Iowa is tailor-made for him to win this. \u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>DeSantis has feuded most closely with former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley in recent weeks, noting her rise as a candidate to compete for second place in polls.<\/p>\n<p>The Florida governor has about 13 percent support nationally, according to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/projects.fivethirtyeight.com\/polls\/president-primary-r\/2024\/national\/\">polling averages<\/a>, compared to Trump\u2019s 60 percent.
