{"id":599314,"date":"2023-11-29T07:23:29","date_gmt":"2023-11-29T04:23:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/house-approves-resolutions-calling-on-hamas-to-release-hostages-reaffirming-israels-right-to-exist\/"},"modified":"2023-11-29T07:23:29","modified_gmt":"2023-11-29T04:23:29","slug":"house-approves-resolutions-calling-on-hamas-to-release-hostages-reaffirming-israels-right-to-exist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/house-approves-resolutions-calling-on-hamas-to-release-hostages-reaffirming-israels-right-to-exist\/","title":{"rendered":"#House approves resolutions calling on Hamas to release hostages, reaffirming Israel\u2019s right to exist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/08\/manningkathy_071922gn_w.jpg?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The House Tuesday night overwhelmingly <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>roved a resolution calling on Hamas to im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely release all hostages in Gaza, and another affirming Israel\u2019s right to exist as an independent state.<\/p>\n<p>The Hamas <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.house.gov\/billsthisweek\/20231127\/H%20Res%20793%20-%20Stevens.pdf\">resolution<\/a>\u00a0\u2014\u00a0which also condemns the group for taking hostages and for launching the terrorist attack on Israel on Oct. 7 \u2014\u00a0cleared the chamber in a unanimous 414-0 vote.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Lawmakers approved the Israel <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/docs.house.gov\/billsthisweek\/20231127\/HRes___%20Lawler.pdf\">resolution<\/a>\u00a0in a 412-1-1 vote. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) was the lone \u201cno\u201d vote, while Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) voted present. The measure, in addition to reaffirming Israel\u2019s right to exist, also rejects calls for Israel\u2019s destruction, condemns Hamas\u2019s attack on Israel, and \u201crecognizes that denying Israel\u2019s right to exist is a form of antisemitism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Massie said he opposed the Israel resolution \u201cbecause it equates anti-Zionism with antisemitism,\u201d adding in a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepThomasMassie\/status\/1729656551596564812?s=20\">post on X<\/a>: \u201cAntisemitism is deplorable, but expanding it to include criticism of Israel is not helpful.\u201d Tlaib, the only Palestinian American serving in Congress, has been critical of Israel\u2019s response to the Hamas terrorist attack, accusing its leaders of conducting genocide as the number of civilian casualties in Gaza increases.<\/p>\n<p>Hamas attacked southern Israel on Oct. 7 in a surprise invasion, killing 1,200 people and taking more than 240 hostages into Gaza, which the U.S.-designated terrorist group has ruled since 2007.<\/p>\n<p>Israel and Hamas are in the midst of a temporary cease-fire to exchange hostages and prisoners, but the war is expected to resume in Gaza once the agreement ends. Hamas thus far has released more than 80 hostages, while Israel has freed 180 Palestinian prisoners, according to an <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/11\/28\/1215353901\/hostages-hamas-israel-gaza-palestinian-prisoners#:~:text=So%20far%20under%20that%20cease,has%20freed%20180%20Palestinian%20prisoners.\">NPR tally<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>About 170 hostages are still in the coastal enclave, including around eight or nine Americans, according to the Biden administration.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. has condemned Hamas for the attacks and staunchly backed Israel, its main ally in the Middle East, as it wages a war to destroy the militant group.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Rep. Kathy Manning (D-N.C.) said the Hamas attacks on Oct. 7 \u201care among the greatest crimes against humanity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe hostages abducted by Hamas include civilians, soldiers, women, children, grandparents,\u201d said Manning on the House floor. \u201cThis resolution calls attention to these abductions by Hamas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The resolution that affirms Israel\u2019s right to exist builds on U.S. and Israeli concerns about extremist Palestinian groups, including Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, that call for the destruction of Israel.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The Biden administration has accused Hamas of genocidal intent against Israel and is committed to a two-state solution, which would allow Israel and a Palestinian state to exist side-by-side.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Mike Lawler (R-N.Y.), who introduced the resolution, said the U.S. \u201cmust do everything it can to stand by its greatest ally in the Middle East.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot only does Israel have a right to exist,\u201d he said on the House floor, \u201cthey have a right to defend themselves and the only way that this ends peacefully is for Hamas to surrender.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar Media Inc.
