Lil Wayne has revealed that he was disheartened to read Andr\u00e9 3000\u2018s recent comments on not having anything to rap about in his 40s.<\/p>\n

Tunechi brought the topic up on the most recent episode of his Young Money Radio show on App<\/a>le Music. Talking to his guest Tyga, Wayne didn\u2019t name names but made it quite clear who he was referring to.<\/p>\n

\u201cI read a depressing quote or two from someone I respect a lot in music \u2013 in Hip Hop period, in music period,\u201d he began. \u201cAnd they were asked, \u2018Why you ain\u2019t been doing music\u2019 or whatever? And they was like, \u2018Man, what I\u2019ma talk about? I\u2019m in my 40s. Like what am I supposed to talk about?\u2019 I was like wow, that was so depressing. I\u2019m like, I have everything to talk about!\u201d<\/p>\n

Tyga replied: \u201cBut I feel like that\u2019s why you gotta stay in it, though. I feel like you can\u2019t be too far removed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Wayne disagreed, however, saying that, at his age, there\u2019s a risk that keeping up with current music might be even more creatively discouraging.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo that\u2019s why I say I don\u2019t listen,\u201d he concluded. \u201cI just go in my little hole. I love what I do. I just put it out and swing for the fences man.\u201d<\/p>\n

The comments Lil Wayne were referring to appeared in Andr\u00e9 3000\u2019s interview with GQ<\/a><\/em> last month. While discussing why his new album, New Blue Sun<\/em>, doesn\u2019t include any raps (or lyrics at all, for that matter), Dre said he simply has nothing to discuss at his age.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ve worked with some of the newest, freshest, youngest, and old-school producers. I get beats all the time. I try to write all the time,\u201d he began. \u201cEven now people think, \u2018Oh, man, he\u2019s just sitting on raps,\u2019 or, \u2018He\u2019s just holding these raps hostage.\u2019 I ain\u2019t got no raps like that. It actually feels\u2026sometimes it feels inauthentic for me to rap because I don\u2019t have anything to talk about in that way.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cI\u2019m 48 years old. And not to say that age is a thing that dictates what you rap about, but in a way it does. And things that happen in my life, like, what are you talking about? \u2018I got to go get a colonoscopy.\u2019 What are you rapping about? \u2018My eyesight is going bad.’\u201d<\/p>\n

In a separate interview with NPR<\/a><\/em>, 3 Stacks elaborated on the reason rap isn\u2019t happening for him right now.<\/p>\n

\u201cI would love to be out here playing with everybody, but it\u2019s just not happening for me. This is the realest thing that\u2019s coming right now. Not to say that I would never do it again, but those are not the things that are coming right now. And I have to present what\u2019s given to me at the time.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo the title, \u2018I Really Wanted To Make A Rap Album, But This Is Literally The Way The Wind Blew Me This Time\u2019 [is] because this album is about wind and breathing. In that way, it is true. It is literally blowing me this way and I\u2019m blowing flutes and I\u2019m blowing digital instruments.\u201d<\/p>\n

New Blue Sun<\/em> serves as Andr\u00e9 3000\u2019s first official solo album, although he did release a disc of solo material on OutKast\u2019s Grammy-winning 2003 double album Speakerboxxx\/The Love Below<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
