{"id":599931,"date":"2023-12-04T17:54:33","date_gmt":"2023-12-04T14:54:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/jury-to-hear-georgia-election-workers-case-against-rudy-giuliani\/"},"modified":"2023-12-04T17:54:33","modified_gmt":"2023-12-04T14:54:33","slug":"jury-to-hear-georgia-election-workers-case-against-rudy-giuliani","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/jury-to-hear-georgia-election-workers-case-against-rudy-giuliani\/","title":{"rendered":"#Jury to hear Georgia election workers\u2019 case against Rudy Giuliani"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/08\/Giuliani-2023.png?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A case to determine how much ex-New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani owes two Georgia poll workers for falsely claiming they helped steal the election from former President Trump will be heard and decided by a jury, a Washington, D.C. federal judge <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/storage.courtlistener.com\/recap\/gov.uscourts.dcd.238720\/gov.uscourts.dcd.238720.113.0.pdf\">ruled late Sunday<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In a sharply worded ruling, U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell denied Giuliani\u2019s request to hold a bench trial instead of a jury trial, meaning the judge would decide the case instead of a jury. She chided him for the \u201csignificantly tardy\u201d motion, having set an October deadline for all pre-trial motions.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cPerhaps Giuliani\u2019s submission is titled a \u2018Trial Brief,\u2019 rather than a motion seeking to convert the scheduled jury trial to a hearing, in a fairly blatant effort to avoid being called out for filing an untimely pretrial motion,\u201d Howell wrote in a footnote. <\/p>\n<p>In the wake of the 2020 election, Giuliani made a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of false statements about the work Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss conducted at Atlanta\u2019s State Farm Arena, where ballots were counted. He and other Trump allies baselessly claimed the election workers \u2014 a mother-daughter duo \u2014 committed election fraud by processing \u201csuitcases\u201d of illicit ballots.<\/p>\n<p>A series of probes\u00a0led by\u00a0three law enforcement agencies\u00a0\u2014 Georgia\u2019s Secretary of State\u2019s office and special agents within the FBI and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation \u2014 found those allegations against the poll workers \u201cwere false and unsubstantiated.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The two election workers sued Giuliani, and as their case proceeded, he failed to turn over evidence despite \u201crepeated reminders\u201d from the court. Howell in August <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.courtlistener.com\/docket\/61642105\/94\/freeman-v-herring-networks-inc\/\">found Giuliani civilly liable<\/a> for Freeman and Moss\u2019s claims of \u201cdefamation, intentional infliction of emotional distress, civil conspiracy, and punitive damage,\u201d citing the longtime Trump ally\u2019s \u201cwillful shirking of his discovery obligations\u201d as reason.<\/p>\n<p>In her Sunday opinion, Howell again cited Giuliani\u2019s \u201cdiscovery misconduct\u201d as reason to deny his request for a bench trial.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis Court will not reward him for conduct that has \u2018already resulted in significant prejudice to Plaintiffs,&#8217;\u201d Howell wrote, quoting her earlier decision.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The jury trial, which is scheduled to begin Dec. 11 in Washington, D.C., will determine the amount of damages Giuliani owes the Georgia election workers as a result. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Media<\/a> Inc.
