{"id":600931,"date":"2023-12-13T05:01:46","date_gmt":"2023-12-13T02:01:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/ida-documentary-awards-bobi-wine-the-peoples-president-wins-best-feature\/"},"modified":"2023-12-13T05:01:46","modified_gmt":"2023-12-13T02:01:46","slug":"ida-documentary-awards-bobi-wine-the-peoples-president-wins-best-feature","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/ida-documentary-awards-bobi-wine-the-peoples-president-wins-best-feature\/","title":{"rendered":"#IDA Documentary Awards: \u2018Bobi Wine: The People\u2019s President\u2019 Wins Best Feature"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <em>Bobi Wine: The People\u2019s President<\/em> won the top prize of best feature documentary at the 2023 International Documentary Awards on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    The film follows music star, activist and opposition leader Bobi Wine amid Uganda\u2019s 2021 presidential election.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Accepting the award during the International Documentary Association\u2018s virtual awards show, co-director Moses Bwayo said, \u201cThe awareness this film has brought to world audiences has arguably kept Bobi Wine alive and out of prison for now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Asmae El Moudir won best director for <em>The Mother of All Lies<\/em>, in which El Moudir creates a replica of the Casablanca neighborhood where she grew up, allowing her to reconnect with her past.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <em>Incident<\/em>, which reconstructs a Chicago police shooting in 2018 from numerous viewpoints, won best short documentary award. <em>POV<\/em> and <em>POV Shorts<\/em> won best curated <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> and best short-form series, respectively, both for the second year in a row.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Other noteworthy winners include <em>Smoke Sauna Sisterhood<\/em>\u2018s Ants Tammik (best cinematography), <em>Anselm<\/em>\u2018s Leonard K\u00fcssner (best original music score), <em>Four Daughters<\/em>\u2018 Kaouther Ben Hania (best writing), <em>Our Planet II <\/em>(best episodic series) and <em>Dear Mama<\/em> (best multi-part documentary).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    In addition to the award winners listed below, the IDA awarded the Pare Lorentz Award to <em>In the Rearview<\/em>, and the ABC <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a> VideoSource Award went to <em>Storming Caesars Palace<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    The 39th IDA Documentary Awards, hosted by KCRW DJs Tyler Boudreaux and Raul Campos, saw winners accept their awards from cities around the world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cWhile we are speaking from Los Angeles, our thoughts are with the people living in the midst of war around the globe,\u201d IDA board co-presidents Grace Lee and Chris Perez said at the top of the show. \u201cThe loss of lives, friendships and the inability to listen has been heartbreaking. And yet, as a community, we are storytellers of the world we live in and know that our work can not only capture history but change minds. To the thousands of IDA members who live in 76 countries and voted for the winners of the best feature and best short documentary categories, thank you for investing your time and for your inspired choices!\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    In announcing this year\u2019s IDA nominations, interim executive director Ken Ikeda said the organization would be skipping an in-person event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cIn the wake of devastating events unfolding in the world and the grief our staff, board, community, and humanity at large are experiencing, we have decided to forego an in-person party,\u201d IDA interim executive director Ken Ikeda said in a statement. \u201cWe know that stories have the power to encourage compassion, understanding and peace. We are committed to preserving space for stories to be shared. Our wish is to recognize and celebrate the nominees and winners together, as a global documentary community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    The IDA\u2019s new executive director, as of Jan. 8, Dominic Asmall Willsdon, delivered the closing remarks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cIn the coming years, across all that IDA does, our task is to become as international as we can be,\u201d Willsdon said. \u201cYou see it already.
