She was 74. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Beauchamp died of natural causes at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, her son Jake Flynn told <em>The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    She was unable to attend an Oct. 28 event at the TCL Chinese Theatre that celebrated authors represented on <em>THR\u2019s<\/em> recent unveiling of \u201cThe 100 Greatest Film Books of All Time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Beauchamp is on the exclusive list thanks to <em>Without Lying Down: Frances Marion and the Powerful Women of Early Hollywood<\/em>. First published in 1997, it centers on Marion, who became the highest-paid screenwriter, man or woman, in Hollywood by 1917 before receiving Oscars for <em>The Big House<\/em> (1930) and <em>The Champ<\/em> (1931).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Beauchamp then wrote and produced for TCM a 2001 documentary based on the book, earning a WGA nomination along the way. (The title came from Marion\u2019s lifelong search \u201cfor a man to look up to without lying down.\u201d)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Beauchamp edited and annotated a 2003 book about another pioneering female writer, Anita Loos, who authored the 1925 novel <em>Gentlemen Prefer Blondes<\/em>; contributed to the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">script<\/a>s for such landmark films as <em>Red-Headed Woman<\/em> (1932), <em>San Francisco<\/em> (1939) and <em>The Women<\/em> (1939); and wrote <em>Gigi<\/em> for Audrey Hepburn on Broadway.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    She also drew from letters, speeches, oral histories, memoirs and autobiographies from actors, directors, screenwriters, editors and cinematographers for another enlightening book, 2020\u2019s <em>My First Time in Hollywood.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Her other books included 1992\u2019s <em>Hollywood on the Riviera: The Inside Story of the Cannes Film Festival<\/em>; 2006\u2019s <em>Adventures of a Hollywood Secretary: Her Private Letters From Inside the Studios of the 1920s<\/em>; and 2009\u2019s <em>Joseph P. Kennedy Presents: His Hollywood Years<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cCari Beauchamp was a dear friend and role model to me and to many others who write about Hollywood,\u201d <em>THR<\/em> executive editor Scott Feinberg said. \u201cAs was evident on and off the page, she was whip smart, fiercely opinionated and endlessly curious.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cFew people, if any, have ever known as much \u2014 or written as prolifically and beautifully \u2014 about the business as she did. Her passing is a loss not just for the family and friends whom she loved and who loved her back, but for anyone who loves <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Beauchamp was born on Sept. 12, 1949, in Berkeley, California. Her father, Blake, was an insurance man, and her mother, Catherine, worked at the University of the Pacific in Stockton for 20 years. She attended Lincoln High School, Foothill College in Los Altos Hills and San Jose State University.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    After leaving college with a bachelor\u2019s degree in political <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/sciencee\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"5\" title=\"Science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">science<\/a> and American history, Beauchamp spent a few years as a private investigator and discovered that \u201cthe information is out there. You just gotta dig,\u201d she once told <em>Vanity Fair<\/em>, where she was a contributor.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    She served as the first president of the National Women\u2019s Political Caucus of California in 1973 and as a campaign manager for Janet Gray Hayes, elected mayor of San Jose in 1976. And from 1979-82, she was California Gov. She offered insight to TCM\u2019s <em>Moguls and Movie Stars: A History of Hollywood<\/em> and Mark Cousins\u2019 expansive <em>The Story of Film<\/em> and was a welcomed interviewer and presenter at the TCM Classic Film Festival over the years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    A resident scholar of the Mary Pickford Foundation and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts \u2014 twice \u2014 she was a featured speaker at Cannes, the British Film Institute, the Museum of Modern Art, the Edinburgh Film Festival and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    She also wrote the 2003 Emmy-nominated PBS documentary <em>The Day My God Died<\/em>, which was filmed in Nepal and India and revolved around girls sold into sexual slavery and those hoping to save them.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    In addition to <em>Vanity Fair<\/em> \u2014 for whom she co-authored a great piece with Judy Balaban about <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.vanityfair.com\/culture\/2010\/08\/drugs-in-hollywood-201008?redirectURL=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.vanityfair.com%2Fculture%2F2010%2F08%2Fdrugs-in-hollywood-201008\">LSD use in Hollywood in the 1960s<\/a> \u2014 Beauchamp contributed to <em>THR<\/em>, <em>IndieWire<\/em>, <em>Variety<\/em>, <em>The New York Times<\/em>, the <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em> and many other publications.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    On her X (formerly <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Twitter<\/a>) page, she described herself as \u201ca joyous feminist who often finds herself pissed off.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Survivors include her sons, Jake and Teo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Beauchamp certainly loved film. \u201cWhen I go and see a movie, I sit down and know the screen\u2019s gonna light up and take me someplace I haven\u2019t been,\u201d she <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/nitrateville.com\/viewtopic.php?t=20331%202015%20interview\">said<\/a> in a 2015 interview. \u201cIt brings the world to you.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    \u201cThat\u2019s part of what the silent era did.
