In short, he didn&#8217;t want to get hurt.<\/p>\n<p>Pickens discussed his decision with reporters while citing a run block by Houston Texans receiver Tank Dell that resulted in a season-ending fractured fibula.<\/p>\n<div class=\"caas-pull-quote-wrapper caas-img caas-lazy\" data-src=\"\">\n<blockquote class=\"caas-blockquote\"><p>&#8220;I was just trying to prevent the Tank Dell situation, the same thing that h<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ened to [him],&#8221; Pickens said, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:1;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bepryor\/status\/1737203079257194827\" data-ylk=\"slk:per ESPN's Brooke Pryor;cpos:1;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">per ESPN&#8217;s Brooke Pryor<\/a>. &#8220;I ain&#8217;t want to get an injury. When you stay on the block too low, you can get ran up on very easily.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<p>The play in question Saturday took place in the first quarter of a scoreless <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>. Running back Jaylen Warren took a pitch from the 7-yard line and ran around the left end. He had a shot at the end zone, but was tackled from behind by linebacker E.J. Speed when cornerback Jaylon Jones impeded his path. Dell&#8217;s injury took place in a decidedly different situation than the play where Pickens declined to block. On the Texans run, Dell lined up on the interior of a power formation at the goal line. His leg got pinned under a pile of players as running back Dameon Pierce crossed the goal line.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Mike_Tomlin_addresses_Pickens\"><\/span>Mike Tomlin addresses Pickens<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Saturday wasn&#8217;t the first time Pickens has drawn attention for his lack of engagement on a run play. He&#8217;s <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/_MLFootball\/status\/1736213749504106741\" data-ylk=\"slk:previously drawn criticism;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">previously drawn criticism<\/a> for declining to block against the New England Patriots and not making an effort to recover a loose ball against the Cincinnati Bengals.<\/p>\n<p>Pickens has also garnered attention for <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MySportsUpdate\/status\/1732966891017089258\" data-ylk=\"slk:his outward expressions of frustration;cpos:4;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">his outward expressions of frustration<\/a> on the football field. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters last week that <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc27.com\/sports\/sports-illustrated\/arena-nfl\/si-pittsburgh-steelers-nfl\/e4f4799e\/george-pickens-mike-tomlin-meet-about-frustrations\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:he and Pickens had met to discuss;cpos:5;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">he and Pickens had met to discuss<\/a> how to handle frustrations in &#8220;a professional and mature way.&#8221; That was after Pittsburgh&#8217;s Week 14 loss to the Patriots.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:6;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.abc27.com\/sports\/sports-illustrated\/arena-nfl\/si-pittsburgh-steelers-nfl\/84363747\/mike-tomlin-admits-george-pickens-maturity-issues\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:Tomlin addressed Pickens again;cpos:6;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Tomlin addressed Pickens again<\/a> on Monday following Pittsburgh&#8217;s loss to Indianapolis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI thought he was better but still has, obviously, room for continued improvement,\u201d Tomlin told reporters.<\/p>\n<p>Tomlin then pointed to Pickens&#8217; failure to block on the Warren run as an area for progress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s one of the examples I\u2019m talking about in terms of obvious room for improvement,\u201d Tomlin continued.<\/p>\n<p>Pickens brushed off the broader commentary on his effort on Tuesday while criticizing <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;No, not really because like I said, once again, it&#8217;s media guys,&#8221; <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:7;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bepryor\/status\/1737204604406735353\" data-ylk=\"slk:Pickens said, per Pryor,;cpos:7;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Pickens said, per Pryor,<\/a> when asked if the criticism bothered him. &#8220;Guys who ain&#8217;t never played a game, they got a job in doing media.
