{"id":601925,"date":"2023-12-21T21:24:50","date_gmt":"2023-12-21T18:24:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/jordan-expands-probe-into-smiths-handling-of-trump-cases\/"},"modified":"2023-12-21T21:24:50","modified_gmt":"2023-12-21T18:24:50","slug":"jordan-expands-probe-into-smiths-handling-of-trump-cases","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/jordan-expands-probe-into-smiths-handling-of-trump-cases\/","title":{"rendered":"#Jordan expands probe into Smith\u2019s handling of Trump cases"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2023\/10\/jordanjim_102023mn02a_w.jpg?w=900\" \/><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) expanded his probe into special counsel Jack Smith, asking him to turn over all documents and records related to his prosecutions of former President Trump.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a familiar move from Jordan, who similarly asked Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D) and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D) to provide all records relating to their prosecutions of Trump.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The sweeping request from Jordan also asks Smith for records relating to his successful bid to access Trump\u2019s X account, as well as for details on his staff, their salaries and the cost of any <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">travel<\/a>. It warns that failure to comply could spur a subpoena.<\/p>\n<p>The requests cover both of Smith\u2019s prosecutions of Trump \u2014 the election interference case and an Espionage Act case dealing with the former president\u2019s mishandling of classified records.<\/p>\n<p>Jordan, along with Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), wrote the request was needed amid \u201csignificant concerns about your commitment to evenhanded justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Smith\u2019s office did not im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>tely respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Under Jordan\u2019s leadership, the Judiciary Committee has asked for a remarkable amount of information about ongoing criminal cases and investigations.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the requests from every prosecutor bringing criminal charges against Trump, Jordan demanded \u2014 and secured \u2014 an interview with special counsel David Weiss, who is overseeing the prosecution of Hunter Biden.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>This is also not the first time Jordan has sought information about Smith. In June, he wrote to Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">General<\/a> Merrick Garland asking for a breakdown of any FBI personnel assisting Smith with his investigation.<\/p>\n<p>And in September, he wrote Smith directly to ask the special counsel about one of his top prosecutor\u2019s visit to the White House.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While Jordan alleged the meeting could show improper coordination with President Biden, prosecutor Jay Bratt\u2019s visit was to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/national-security\/2023\/08\/29\/jay-bratt-trump-white-house-interview\/\">interview a career White House staffer<\/a>\u00a0as part of the investigation into Trump\u2019s mishandling of classified documents.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Jordan\u2019s interest in Smith\u2019s probing of Trump\u2019s X\u00a0account comes as the special counsel recently highlighted how he plans to use data\u00a0collected from Trump\u2019s phone, including when the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a> was in use.<\/p>\n<p>Smith won a secret bid\u00a0for a search warrant for the account in July, though the matter was not revealed publicly til August.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Smith has stayed silent even as lawmakers seek to put him in congressional crosshairs, with the department\u2019s Office of Legislative Affairs responding on his behalf.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>But other prosecutors have been vocal in casting Jordan\u2019s efforts as interference into an ongoing investigation.<\/p>\n<p>Willis earlier this year called Jordan\u2019s letter an \u201cillegal intrusion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour attempt to invoke congressional authority to intrude upon and interfere with an active criminal case in Georgia is flagrantly at odds with the Constitution,\u201d Willis wrote.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cThere is absolutely no support for Congress purporting to second guess or somehow supervise an ongoing Georgia criminal investigation and prosecution.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Copyright 2023 Nexstar Media Inc.
