Scarface\u2018s app<\/a>earance on NPR\u2019s Tiny Desk Concert<\/em> series<\/a> has been universally praised, but Face has revealed that for him, it was important for a very specific reason.<\/p>\n

After the performance, Face and producer and musician Mike Dean, who backed the rapper during the show, spoke to Tiny Desk senior producer Bobby Carter, where the Texas OG made the revelation.<\/p>\n

\u201cLet me tell you why this Tiny Desk<\/em> was such a moment for me,\u201d the Geto Boys rhymer began. \u201cBecause Mike Dean actually played the parts in the [original] songs, so he knows the parts. You don\u2019t have to teach him the parts, because those parts came from him.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Dean, along with Joseph \u201cN.O. Joe\u201d Johnson, helped create the sound of Southern rap during the 1990s with their work on the Rap-A-Lot Records label.<\/p>\n

Houston native Dean, whose first credited work with Scarface was on 1993\u2019s The World Is Yours \u2014 <\/em>as well as\u00a0the Geto Boys\u2019 Till Death Do Us Part<\/em> released that same year \u2014 refused to take too much credit for his musical contributions to the rapper\u2019s sound.<\/p>\n

\u201cFace is the one that was directing me and [N.O.] Joe all the time what he wanted,\u201d Dean said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
