\n George Clooney, Michael McKean and Richard Roeper are among the stars remembering acclaimed British actor Tom Wilkinson, who died \u201csuddenly\u201d on Saturday at the age of 75.<\/p>\n

\n Wilkinson, known for his BAFTA-winning role in The Full Monty<\/em> and Oscar-nominated turns in Michael Clayton<\/em> and In the Bedroom<\/em>, died at home, according to a statement from the actor\u2019s family, who were with him when he died as was his wife.<\/p>\n

\n For his role in Tony Gilroy\u2019s Michael Clayton<\/em>, the 2007 drama that starred George Clooney and Tilda Swinton, who won the best supporting actress Oscar for her performance, Wilkinson received a best supporting actor nod.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cTom made every project better, made every actor better,\u201d Clooney said of Wilkinson in a statement. \u201cHe was the epitome of elegance, and he will be dearly missed by all of us.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n McKean posted to X (formerly known as Twitter<\/a>) that Wilkinson was a \u201cgreat actor,\u201d while Roeper praised the versatile actor\u2019s performances over the course of his career.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cThere was never a Tom Wilkinson moment onscreen that didn\u2019t feel authentic,\u201d Roeper wrote on X. \u201cHe wasn\u2019t a supporting player; he was an actor who elevated the material, regardless of genre. I\u2019ll never forget his heartbreakingly great work as a father overcome with grief in \u2018In the Bedroom.\u2019 RIP.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Filmmaker Scott Derrickson, who worked with Wilkinson on The Exorcism of Emily Rose<\/em>, shared an anecdote from when they wrapp<\/a>ed the film, calling it his \u201cfavorite \u2026 memory\u201d of the actor.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cI went to [Wilkinson] to say goodbye,\u201d Derrickson wrote. \u201cAs I went in for a hug, he turned sideways and put one arm around my shoulder. I said, \u2018Well that\u2019s a British hug if I\u2019ve ever had one\u2026\u2019 He frowned at me, then grabbed my face and kissed me right on the lips for a good five seconds, then declared loudly, \u2018Don\u2019t ever insult British affection or sense of romance! We invented the stuff!’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n In addition to the accolades he received for his film roles, Wilkinson won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his role as Benjamin Franklin in HBO\u2019s 2008 John Adams<\/em> miniseries<\/a>, starring Paul Giamatti as the titular second president of the United States. At both awards shows, he was also nominated for his role as James Baker in another HBO project, the Jay Roach-directed film Recount<\/em>, about the contentious weeks after the 2000 presidential election between George W. Bush and Al Gore and the Florida recount.<\/p>\n

The bottom line with me for an Actor is do I believe what they\u2019re saying, and I never heard a word come out of TOM WILKINSON\u2019s mouth that I didn\u2019t 100% believe. <\/p>\n
