Though it\u2019s certainly possible to appreciate baile funk without the assistance of conscious-altering substances, it\u2019s difficult to completely separate funk from the context of drug music \u2014 the high-pitched squeals and shrill alarms you often hear in funk tracks, a sound described as \u201ctuin,\u201d are intended to trigger the state of auditory hallucination associated with lan\u00e7a perfume, an ether-like inhalant popular in Brazil\u2019s underground club scene. The reverb delirium of tracks like \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=c89xJ_USPCY\">2 Puta de 1 Vez<\/a>\u201d recall the eerie hauntology of early cloud rap and Clams Casino-type beats, while other tracks channel the flanged-out ecstasy of trance music. Completely unpredictable sample choices collide into the periphery like party-crashers: \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=K5lfQRU-kiU\">Tipo Cena de Novela<\/a>\u201d flips a coffee-shop ukulele cover of \u201cHotline Bling,\u201d of all things.<\/p>\n<p>            But it\u2019s the almost-title track \u201cMega a Cura Antidepressiva\u201d that best demonstrates baile funk\u2019s unique capacity to hijack recognizable cultural reference points and completely repurpose them into something that\u2019s not just new and unfamiliar, but unapologetically Brazilian.
