Ice-T has revealed his theory as to why the Def Jam Vendetta<\/em> video game<\/a> has never been rebooted.<\/p>\n

In a series<\/a> of posts on X (formerly Twitter<\/a>) on Sunday (January 7), the rapp<\/a>er and actor, who featured as a playable character in the game\u2019s sequel Def Jam: Fight For NY<\/em>, discussed why a new version of the game has not been brought to market.<\/p>\n

He wrote: \u201cSo many people ask me why this game hasn\u2019t been brought back for the newer consoles. Maybe because they\u2019d have to pay for voice and music rights again. Maybe?\u201d<\/p>\n

Responding to fans calling for a remake, the Body Count legend said: \u201cHere\u2019s the BIG problem.. I don\u2019t think they paid ANY of us ANYTHING to be in that original game\u2026 I know I didn\u2019t get any type of substantial money. It\u2019s was a situation where you didn\u2019t want to be left OUT of the game. Well\u2026.. Yesterday\u2019s price is not Today\u2019s price..!\u201d<\/p>\n

Ice-T also reminded fans<\/a> that he has appeared in other video games and was paid for his work: \u201cYes sir! \u2018Mad Dog\u2019 the Boss. GTA paid me though\u2026 lol So did Gears of War.. \u2018Griffen.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Kevin Liles has previously teased reviving the series, which was a beat \u2019em up game in the vein of Street Fighter<\/em> but saw rappers battle each other with their fists.<\/p>\n

Liles, who is the former president of Def Jam, said on social media in 2021: \u201c#itsinthename Thinking I should bring back the series. How many of y\u2019all would like to see this happen #DefJamEnterprises let me know.\u201d<\/p>\n

In August 2020, Def Jam themselves hinted at a possible return to video games with a tweet saying the public wants another fighting game from them.<\/p>\n

They said if their X (then Twitter) page hits one million followers, they would announce something special for the fans. Unfortunately, no announcement was made regarding a video game once they hit that mark.<\/p>\n

Def Jam Vendetta<\/em> was originally released in 2003 and allowed fans to play as some of their favorite rappers including Ghostface Killah, DMX, Method Man, Ludacris and Joe Budden.<\/p>\n

Two sequels followed with expanded rosters that also included Snoop Dogg, The Game, Jeezy and Big Boi, among others.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
