Photo by <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/jonahfree\/\">Jonah Freeman<\/a>.<br \/>\n    <\/span><\/p>\n<p>  <span class=\"credit\"><br \/>\n      \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-258797\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            MGMT have shared the third single from <i>Loss of Life<\/i>, their first album since 2018\u2019s <i>Little Dark Age<\/i>, due out February 23 via Mom + Pop. \u201cNothing to Declare\u201d \u2014 not to be confused with 700 Bliss\u2019 2022 album of the same name \u2014 is a forlorn acoustic guitar ballad that nevertheless fits snugly into a three-and-a-half-minute runtime, never lingering too long in its most emotional moments.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            The track arrives alongside a visual treatment directed by <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/sphynxtits\/?hl=en\">Joey Frank<\/a> and starring Inga Petry, a philosophy and pre-law student at the University of Pittsburg who was born with upper limb aplasia and uses her <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@ingapetry?is_from_webapp=1&amp;sender_device=pc\">rapidly growing platform on TikTok<\/a> (102,000 followers and counting) to spread awareness for the disabled community. <\/p>\n<p>            The clip \u2014 more like a short film than a traditional music video, although constrained to the length of the song \u2014 follows Petry on a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip &amp; Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a> to Paris, capturing her wonder as she confidently navigates the city. Interspersed between shots of her shopping, partying, and using her feet and toes with remarkable dexterity to accomplish necessary tasks like eating and using her phone, are scenes of her strolling through the Louvre, where she eventually arrives at the famous Venus de Milo statue. We listened to \u201cNothing To Declare\u201d as he took me through the concept of the video and I was met with the juxtaposition of beauty and melancholy. Having grown up with no arms, I have been watched my whole life. In some respects, the Venus de Milo has always felt analogous to my life, and specifically to the character I portray in this film. She\u2019s adored, respected, and almost constantly surrounded by people, and yet she stands alone and her past is unknown. There have always been questions surrounding her arms and she has never had to answer or prove her worth. From my perspective, she has nothing to declare. Playing this character that is different, and not just because she doesn\u2019t have arms, but by the way she handles the difference and still feeds on new curiosity was a really beautiful experience.<\/p>\n<p>As an individual, the song and film resonated to me in another way as well. At the time of the initial filming I had just been diagnosed with Stage III Breast Cancer. This changed my personal perception of the film and pulled me away from seeing it as a way to artistically see how my character exists with differences within her environment, and made it an experience of the individual. At this point in time, to me, \u201cNothing To Declare\u201d no longer meant that you don\u2019t have to explain your circumstances, but instead it felt like a literal statement going through the customs of life. After this diagnosis, I couldn\u2019t exist as the same person I was. I had to put a lot of my personal goals aside to focus on my health and recovery. In that respect, I had to end one chapter of my life and enter a new one. A chapter that doesn\u2019t care about who I was  before or what aspirations I was striving toward. Instead, one that focuses on removing all the cancer and only then will I be able to start living again. My wish is for people to watch the video and enjoy the art and mystery.
