\n The bodies of two children swept away from their mother during a flash flood in North Carolina have been found, ending a three-day search effort, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Deputies in Johnston County on Thursday recovered the body of 4-year-old Abraham Martinez from a creek in Smithfield, about a quarter-mile from where his mother\u2019s car went into fast-moving water just before midnight Monday, The News<\/a> & Observer reports.<\/p>\n

Emergency crews in a rescue boat tried to save the boy and his mother, Vanessa Castro, after the wreck, but the vessel carrying the pair capsized during the effort, the newspaper reports. Only Castro was saved.<\/p>\n

The body of Abraham\u2019s 5-year-old sister, identified in reports as Alexa Osorio, was discovered in the creek Wednesday afternoon, according to WRAL. She had been trapp<\/a>ed in the car and floated out of sight during the effort to rescue the family.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone is emotional,\u201d Johnston County Sheriff Steve Bizzell told reporters. \u201cThe family is emotional, the deputies are deputies, I am emotional. Anytime we deal with a case involving children, anytime it\u2019s someone\u2019s child, someone\u2019s loved one, someone\u2019s sister, I\u2019m emotional.\u201d<\/p>\n

Castro, who was driving at the time, called 911 to report that her car was swept into a creek off Galilee Road. Up to 8 inches of rain was reported in the area, prompting several water rescues throughout Johnston County, WRAL reports.<\/p>\n

Castro was released from a hospital on Tuesday, friends and relatives told the station.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were for good news, but what we have is better than not having anything at all,\u201d Nancy Martinez, Abraham and Alexa\u2019s aunt, told the News & Observer. \u201cIf you got your own kids, kiss them goodnight every night.\u201d<\/p>\n

Castro had called 911 four times as water filled her car, the newspaper reports. She managed to get her son on top of the vehicle but was unable to get her daughter atop the car before she started clinging onto a tree in the water, the newspaper reports.<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t think this tree\u2019s going to hold much longer,\u201d Castro told a dispatcher. \u201cThe current is so fast. Oh, Jesus God, forgive all my sins.\u201d<\/p>\n

An online fundraiser set up to offset funeral costs for the children has surpassed $23,000 as of Friday.<\/p>\n
