Hayao Miyazaki<\/b>\u2019s <\/span>The Boy and the Heron<\/span><\/i> has been nominated for Best Animated Feature at the 96th Academy Awards, which will take place on March 10, 2024.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

This marks Miyazaki\u2019s third overall nomination at the Academy Awards, following <\/span>Howl\u2019s Moving Castle<\/span><\/i>, <\/span>The Wind Rises<\/span><\/i>, and <\/span>Spirited Away<\/span><\/i>, with the latter winning the award in 2002. <\/span>The Boy and the Heron<\/span><\/i> recently won Best Motion Picture \u2013 Animated prize at the <\/span>Golden Globe Awards<\/span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Mamoru Hosoda<\/b>\u2019s Mirai<\/em> was the last anime<\/a> film nominated in the category back in 2018.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Studio Ghibli<\/b>\u2019s other films <\/span>The Wind Rises, The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, When Marnie Was There, <\/span><\/i>and <\/span>The Red Turtle<\/span><\/i> (which was a Japanese and French co-production) were also previously nominated in the Oscars\u2019 Best Animated feature category.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Boy and the Heron<\/span><\/i> was released in the U.S. on December 8, 2023 after first premiering in Japan as How Do You Live?<\/em>on July 14, 2023.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
