\n In a surprising development, Netflix will no longer be releasing Halle Berry\u2019s sci-fi movie The Mothership<\/em>, The Hollywood Reporter <\/em>has confirmed.<\/p>\n

\n Berry and the Mothership <\/em>team already completed much of the filming on the project, but it was in need of extensive reshoots to get it over the finish line. Netflix opted not to move forward with those reshoots and shelved the film instead. The InSneider <\/em>newsletter<\/a> first reported the news<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n The sci-fi film starred Berry as a woman who discovers an extraterrestrial object under her home one year after the disapp<\/a>earance of her husband. Matthew Chapman (Bridge of Spies<\/em>) wrote and directed The Mothership <\/em>as his feature directorial debut. The ensemble cast included Molly Parker, John Ortiz and Omari Hardwick. <\/p>\n

\n That move recalls Warner Bros. Discovery\u2019s 2022 decision to axe Batgirl,<\/em>\u00a0the DC film that already completed shooting and was expected to arrive on HBO Max. The company also shelved the animated feature Coyote vs. Acme<\/em> late last year, though it has allowed the filmmakers to shop it around. To date, no buyer has emerged.<\/p>\n

\n Berry and Danny Stillman executive produced The Mothership<\/em>, with Fred Berger and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones from Automatik producing. The Mothership <\/em>was part of a multi-picture partnership that Berry has with the streaming service that sees her star in and produce Netflix feature films.<\/p>\n

\n Berry remains in business with Netflix. The streamer released her directorial debut, Bruised,<\/em> in 2020 after it bowed at the Toronto Film Festival. <\/em>She also has the Mark Wahlberg feature The Union<\/em> with the streaming service.<\/p>\n

\n The Mothership <\/em>news comes on the heels of Scott Stuber stepping down from the streaming service\u2019s top film job to form his own media<\/a> company. Stuber was instrumental in courting Berry and other top talent to make films for the service.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
