Common remains in awe of Nas and Andr\u00e9 3000 as MCs.<\/p>\n

Despite penning some of the most classic rhymes in rap history, the Chicago native has admitted he is still blown away by the skills of the\u00a0Illmatic<\/em> lyricist and the OutKast legend.<\/p>\n

During an interview with Hot 97\u2019s Ebro in the Morning on Wednesday (January 24), Common said: \u201cHim [Andr\u00e9 3000] and Nas, for me, are the two that I\u2019ll be like, \u2018Damn, I wish I wrote that.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cI was playing \u2018New York State of Mind\u2019 and one of the greatest lines ever written is, \u2018Beyond the walls of intelligence life is defined\/ I think of crime when I\u2019m in a New York state of mind<\/em>.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The Windy City rapp<\/a>er also shared his reaction to Andr\u00e9\u2019s New Blue Sun<\/em>, speaking highly of the somewhat divisive flute-driven instrumental album.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst of all, it\u2019s just great to hear something from Andr\u00e9,\u201d Common said. \u201cOf course I wanna hear his raps, but that dude has been such a creator\u2026 When I put on that flute album I was like, \u2018Yo, this joint is dope to me.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

The 51-year-old also shared that producers have been hitting him up saying they could loop some of the instrumentals on\u00a0New Blue Sun<\/em> for him to rap over.<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t the first time that\u00a0Common his given Nas his flowers either. Last year, the Electric Circus<\/em> creator hailed \u201cOne Love\u201d as \u201cone of the greatest songs ever written\u201d while as reflecting on the beauty and power of Hip Hop.<\/p>\n

\u201cI remember being at a performance and then walking outside of the show, and this dude came up to me, and he said, \u2018Common, I really love your music. I want to tell you that your song \u2018Retrospect for Life\u2019 made me decide to have my kid,\u2019\u201d he recalled.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wrote that song because I had been through that experience. And there was a moment when I was on the way to the abortion clinic, and the mother of my child decided, \u2018We can\u2019t do this again,\u2019 because this was after already having one abortion. Let\u2019s figure out whatever we have to do. That situation showed when you receive experiences from a place of truth, it just resonates in a different way.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued: \u201cThat\u2019s why we related to when Nas talked about what he talked about on\u00a0Illmatic<\/em>. He experienced it, and the way he told it was just beautiful. In \u2018One Love,\u2019 he talks to his boy in prison. That\u2019s one of the greatest songs ever written.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
