DMC of the legendary Run-DMC revealed that not one but two biopics about the famed group are on the way \u2013 despite his initial resistance to make any at all.<\/p>\n

While talking to AllHipHop<\/a><\/em> in an interview published on Thursday (February 1) Darryl \u201cDMC\u201d McDaniels explained that, years earlier when films like N.W.A\u2019s biopic Straight Outta Compton<\/em> were hot, he didn\u2019t like the idea of jumping into that already crowded lane. However, working on the group\u2019s new documentary Kings From Queens<\/em> got him to see things differently.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t want to jump on a biopic bandwagon,\u201d he said. \u201cThat\u2019s why. After the documentary airs, you could tell a story. There\u2019s so many stories in the Run-DMC biopic though. So after this airs, what segment are you going to take out of this to do the biopic? You\u2019re going to tell D meets Run and this and that. That\u2019s impossible to tell. So a little teaser is maybe we\u2019ll do a biopic focusing on the Raising Hell<\/em> years. That\u2019ll be very interesting.\u201d<\/p>\n

While nothing is official in the movie realm just yet, the three-part docuseries<\/a> Kings From Queens: The Run-DMC Story<\/em> premieres on Peacock on Thursday (February 1).<\/p>\n

In the lead-up to the release, DMC also sat down with HipHopDX<\/em> to discuss his group\u2019s rise to fame during an era when superstars didn\u2019t look or sound like him or his group. During the chat, he reflected on the trio landing the first-ever brand deal in rap history (with Adidas), while discussing the current state of fashion in the industry.<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople got to understand we wasn\u2019t selling a product; we was selling a spirit,\u201d he began. \u201cYes, the wealth fucked it up [\u2026] When you look at kids from this generation, they holding their watch up and pointing at it; they holding their chain up; they holding their money up like that; they pointing at the car, they taking a picture by the car.<\/p>\n

\u201cKiller Mike said, \u2018We were so proud, we had cars, gold and jewelry, but we pointed at ourselves<\/em>\u2019 \u2014 we<\/em> were the wealth.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe wore what everybody else in the places we came from was wearing, so it created a sense of value universally. Now, because we came as we were in those $40 sneakers and the sneakers started selling off the hook, the other high-end companies stole our look, style and presence, and the only thing that they\u2019re selling right now is product, but they\u2019re not selling spirit.\u201d<\/p>\n

The rap pioneer concluded: \u201cSo now, these kids will lie, cheat, steal just to look like something that\u2019s really not worth anything. Run-DMC\u2019s relationship with adidas is way bigger than Run-DMC and adidas.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
