Production on Outlander: Blood of My Blood<\/em> and its 10-episode first season has begun in Scotland. Starz has announced casting for the upcoming prequel series<\/a>, which will follow the relationships of the parents of\u00a0Jamie and Claire, the lead characters of Outlander<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Starz revealed more about the series in a press release.<\/p>\n

STARZ announced today that production is underway on the first season of \u201cOutlander: Blood of My Blood,\u201d a prequel series to its highly popular time-travel<\/a>ing drama, \u201cOutlander.\u201d As with the flagship series, the 10-episode season will be filmed in Scotland. STARZ has also confirmed the casting of four key roles in the series with Harriet Slater (\u201cPennyworth,\u201d \u201cBelgravia: The Next Chapter\u201d),\u00a0<\/em>Jamie Roy (Condor\u2019s Nest, Flowers and Honey)<\/em>, Hermione Corfield (The Road Dance,\u00a0<\/em>\u201cWe Hunt Together\u201d), and Jeremy Irvine (War Horse, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again)\u00a0<\/em>leading the cast.<\/p>\n

As previously announced, \u201cOutlander: Blood of My Blood\u201d will explore the lives and relationship of Jamie\u2019s parents, Ellen MacKenzie (Slater) and Brian Fraser (Roy). STARZ confirmed today that the series will also explore the origin story of Claire\u2019s parents, Julia Moriston (Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Irvine). The series will center on these two parallel love stories set in two different time periods, with Jamie\u2019s parents in the early 18th<\/sup>\u00a0century Scottish Highlands and Claire\u2019s parents in WWI England.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled to be telling the stories of these two couples. The origins of their relationships explore universal theme<\/a>s that transcend time periods and we\u2019re so excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories the way they have with Claire and Jamie,\u201d says Matthew B. Roberts, showrunner, executive producer and writer on both series.<\/p>\n

\u201cOutlander,\u201d which will celebrate its 10th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary this summer, will be airing the back eight episodes of its seventh season later this year and has been confirmed for a 10-episode eighth season, which will begin production shortly in Scotland.<\/p>\n

In addition to Roberts, Ronald D. Moore will also executive produce \u201cOutlander: Blood of My Blood,\u201d along with Maril Davis. Moore and Davis developed \u201cOutlander\u201d for television, under their production banner Tall Ship Productions. Story Mining & Supply Company will also executive produce, and Diana Gabaldon will serve as a consulting producer. \u201cOutlander: Blood of My Blood\u201d is produced by Sony Pictures Television. The series will be available across all STARZ platforms in the U.S. and Canada.<\/p>\n
