The key regulation seeks to ensure that homegrown net-zerotech can cover at least 40% of the bloc\u2019s demand by 2030.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe NZIA is an important step in creating the necessary ecosystem to boost the manufacturing of clean technologies,\u201d said Jo Brouns, Flemish Minister for Economy, Innovation, Work, <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Social<\/a> Economy, and Agriculture.<\/p>\n<p>Amongst the technologies designated as \u201cstrategic\u201d for the union\u2019s decarbonisation are solar power, onshore and offshore wind energy, batteries and energy storage, carbon capture, biogas\/biomethane, and renewable hydrogen.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Streamlining_processes\"><\/span>Streamlining processes<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<div class=\"inarticle-wrapper channel-cta\">\n<div class=\"ica-text\">\n<p class=\"ica-text__title\">TNW Conference 2024 &#8211; 2 for 1 Flash Sale<\/p>\n<p>Get two tickets for the price of one. Offer Ends on Monday 12 February<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>In response to the US\u2019 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/cleanenergy\/inflation-reduction-act-guidebook\/\">Inflation Reduction Act<\/a> (which offers $369bn of subsidies for American-made green tech), the NZIA aims to drive investment with the creation of more favourable processes and regulations.<\/p>\n<p>For example, businesses in the space will be able to benefit not only from regulatory sandboxes, but also from fast permit-granting \u2014 set at a maximum of 18 months for larger projects (over 1 gigawatt) and of 12 months for smaller projects (less than 1 gigawatt).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStreamlining permitting and licensing processes is critical for businesses aiming to deploy renewable and low-carbon technologies at scale,\u201d Atle Christiansen, co-founder and CPO at Oslo-based Zerolytics, told TNW.<\/p>\n<p>The act also introduces net-zero \u201cvalleys\u201d with the aim to create clusters that can increase manufacturing activities.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Green_tech_competition\"><\/span>Green tech competition<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>According to Christiansen, the NZIA marks a pivotal moment. \u201cEuropean businesses, especially those prioritising investments in green vs legacy technologies, risk falling behind international rivals who benefit from either more substantial subsidy schemes or the absence of net-zero commitments,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>The IRA presents a concrete example, triggering fears that European companies will be lured into setting up shop across the Atlantic. While the NZIA doesn\u2019t offer a new pot of money to match the billion dollar subsidies (instead, it aims to coordinate various EU funds), it has the potential to drive both interest and investment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMuch like how we\u2019ve seen in the US, where the IRA has played a key role in driving funding in climate tech solutions in North America, we expect the act to create more favourable market conditions in Europe, and will generate confidence among aspiring founders and VCs, which will in turn boost innovation,\u201d Marian Kruger, co-founder and managing director of Amsterdam-based accelerator remove.global, told TNW.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from the US, the EU will also have to rival China\u2019s dominance in the global solar supply chain, which is expected to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.woodmac.com\/press-releases\/china-dominance-on-global-solar-supply-chain\/\">hold 80%<\/a> of the world\u2019s manufacturing capacity between 2023 and 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The NZIA will likely come into force later this year, following the final adoption by the Council and the Parliament. It remains to be seen whether the act\u00a0 (alongside the other schemes of the Green Deal Industrial Plan) will manage to mobilise the <span>\u20ac1.5tn in investment<\/span> per\u00a0 year Brussels says is <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/ababab4c-7d81-4e63-b48c-0c59b687b5f2\">needed<\/a> to meet the bloc\u2019s new climate goal: a 90% reduction of CO2 emissions by 2040.\n                        <\/div>\n<blockquote><p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">If you liked the article, do not forget to share it with your friends.
