\n The Murena 2, a \u201cdeGoogled\u201d smartphone with a\u00a0kill switch, has finally launched in Europe.<\/p>\n

Billed as a privacy-centric disruptor to the App<\/a>le-Google mobile duopoly, the device\u00a0<\/span>is the second handset from French startup Murena.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

One new addition to the Murena 2 is a physical privacy button, which instantly disables the microphone and camera. To reactivate them for a video call, users just need to flick the switch again.<\/span><\/p>\n

On the other side of the handset is another button \u2014 a disconnection switch. This disables all network activity and mutes the device, providing a \u201cdo not disturb\u201d function that taps into growing demands for digital detoxes.<\/span><\/p>\n

The device\u2019s brain, meanwhile, is powered by\u00a0<\/span>\/e\/OS<\/u><\/span><\/a>, a privacy-oriented, open-source <\/span>derivative\u00a0<\/span>of Android. Murena built the software to escape the shackles of Google\u2019s\u00a0operating system.<\/span><\/p>\n

On \/e\/OS, every tracker is removed by default. Android, by contrast, sends data back to Google an estimated 40 times an hour on an inactive device \u2014 and 90 on an active one.<\/span><\/p>\n
