Director Guy Ritchie<\/strong> plucked\u00a0Jason Statham<\/strong> from the world of modeling and gave him his first acting job in 1998\u2019s Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels<\/em>. The two have reunited multiple times over the years \u2013 in 2000\u2019s Snatch<\/em>, 2005\u2019s Revolver<\/em>, and again in next year\u2019s Wrath of Man<\/em> \u2013 and now the duo are getting together to make yet another new movie. Ritchie will direct Five Eyes<\/strong><\/em>, a spy thriller in which Statham will play the lead character\u2026who happ<\/a>ens to have a pretty spectacular name.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Hollywood Reporter says that Ritchie will direct Five Eyes<\/em>, in which Statham plays a guy named \u201cOrson Fortune.\u201d Man, I\u2019d forgotten how much I love a good ridiculous movie character name. Fortune is an MI6 guns-and-steel agent who is recruited by a global intelligence alliance called Five Eyes to track down and stop the sale of a deadly new weapons technology<\/a> which threatens to disrupt the world order. Reluctantly paired with a CIA agent who\u2019s an expert in technology, Fortune sets off on a globe-trotting mission where he will have to use all of his charm, ingenuity, and stealth to track down and infiltrate a billionaire arms broker.<\/p>\n

Personally, I can\u2019t wait for the scene where he says the line, \u201cFortune favors the bold\u201d \u2013 although I can\u2019t decide if the one-liner would best be delivered right before killing the bad guy, or right before inevitably bedding the love interest. You know how these movies<\/a> go.<\/p>\n

The script hails from writers\u00a0Ivan Atkinson<\/strong> and Marn Davies<\/strong>, who wrote Ritchie\u2019s recent movie The Gentlemen<\/em> as well as Wrath of Man\u00a0<\/em>(which used to have the much cooler title of Cash Truck<\/em>). Ritchie provided revisions to their screenplay, and he\u2019ll produce this movie alongside Atkinson.\u00a0Bill Block<\/strong>\u00a0(2018\u2019s Halloween<\/em>) is also producing for Miramax, the company that\u2019s fully financing the film, and STX Entertainment is handling\u00a0distribution in the U.S., UK, and Ireland. It\u2019s not surprising that all these parties are involved, given that their most recent collaboration,\u00a0The Gentlemen<\/em>,\u00a0made over $115 million worldwide on a $22 million budget. That film earned a bit of a mixed reception, but was general<\/a>ly seen as a mostly welcome return to Ritchie\u2019s crime capers of old. Here\u2019s hoping Ritchie\u2019s upcoming reunions with his old pal Statham will boost the quality of these muscular throwback films and fill a hole that isn\u2019t really being filled in the movie landscape these days.<\/p>\n
