<\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>A television network boss once told me there is no political talk show that will get better ratings than a videotape of any politician <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/trip-and-travel\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"10\" title=\"Trip & Travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trip<\/a>ping and falling.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s still true.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr1_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>American television networks can\u2019t pull their cameras away from the stumbles and the screaming on public view as the result of the GOP\u2019s likely nomination of Donald Trump for a second term as president.<\/p>\n<p>Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) took a face-first fall on live television two weeks ago when he\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=zKlvqCdV7DA\">called a vote<\/a>\u00a0to begin impeachment proceedings against President Biden\u2019s secretary of Homeland Security, Alejandro Mayorkas. In rushing to please the Trump-extremists in his caucus, he failed to realize that\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=zKlvqCdV7DA\">he did not have the votes<\/a>. On a second try last week, they impeached Mayorkas by a single vote. It was a transparently empty act that said less about the secretary than it did about their own bumbling. <\/p>\n<p>The entire GOP House caucus is now locked in this fall-on-your-butt loop of dysfunction.<\/p>\n<p>Currently,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pressgallery.house.gov\/member-data\/casualty-list\">close to two dozen Republicans<\/a>\u00a0are making it clear they can\u2019t take more of the sad comedy. They are leaving their broken caucus.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This month\u2019s\u00a0surprise announcement\u00a0of the departure of Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers (R-Wash.) adds to a pattern of evidence that the generation of center-right, George W. Bush era conservatives is coming to an end.<\/p>\n<p>Next came the retirement announcement from House Homeland Security Chair Mark Green (R-Tenn.).<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr2_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>The same pattern was evident this month when Rep. Mike Gallagher (R-Wisc.) announced plans to leave. Gallagher\u2019s decision to quit was\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/politics\/mike-gallagher-retires-quits-congress-00dae773\">described by the news section of The Wall Street Journal as<\/a>\u00a0\u201ca blow to the establishment wing of the Republican party, which had hope he would have a bigger future in politics.\u201d The Journal\u2019s editorial page\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-cost-of-a-dysfunctional-congress-gallagher-re-election-wisconsin-china-5fb56b11\">stated that<\/a> Gallagher was \u201ca rare member these days who wants to do something other than promote his <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social media<\/a> brand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This pattern of serious Republicans leaving Congress started when Rep. Kay Granger (R-Texas), the GOP congresswoman with the longest tenure in the House,\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2023\/11\/01\/kay-granger-retiring\/\">announced<\/a>\u00a0late last year she was quitting. Granger is chair of the powerful House <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts & Themes & Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">App<\/a>ropriations Committee.<\/p>\n<p>In January, Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-S.C.)\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/jeff-duncan-house-south-carolina-republican-retires-c86375d6a83dfbedcfa7d1d736921e5f\">announced his departure\u00a0<\/a>from the House after\u00a014 years\u00a0in Congress.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr3_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>It wasn\u2019t that long ago that Bush-era GOP stalwarts like Karl Rove were talking about a \u201c<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.huffpost.com\/entry\/what-karl-rove-really-had_b_60947\">permanent Republican majority<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But today\u2019s Republican House is bleeding from so many falls. And with\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2023\/01\/22\/politics\/house-republicans-biden-districts\/index.html\">18 Republicans in districts won by President Biden in 2020<\/a>, they\u00a0look to be bleeding away their majority. Already, 18 current House Republicans are\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/pressgallery.house.gov\/member-data\/casualty-list\">headed out<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The despairing state of the GOP\u2019s House majority is tied to Trump\u2019s self-serving focus on extreme right politics.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr4_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>Ronna Romney McDaniel, chair of the Republican National Committee, is\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/rnc-chair-ronna-mcdaniel-stepping-matters-replace\/story?id=107027897\">reportedly also leaving\u00a0<\/a>under pressure from Trump loyalists who deem her insufficiently supportive of Trump\u2019s presidential bid.<\/p>\n<p>State Republican parties are also in disarray as a result of Trump loyalty tests.<\/p>\n<p>In Florida, Arizona, Michigan and Nevada, the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2024-election\/swing-state-republican-parties-turmoil-rcna132931\">state Republican parties are falling apart<\/a> amid battles between Trump supporters and conservatives alarmed that his extremism hurts down-ballot Republicans.\u00a0<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr5_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re basically just acting as if there\u2019s no state party,\u201d\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/2024-election\/swing-state-republican-parties-turmoil-rcna132931\">a Michigan Republican operative told NBC<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trump loyalist Kari Lake, now considering a run for the U.S. Senate after losing a bid for governor, recently threw the Arizona GOP into chaos by <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.azfamily.com\/2024\/01\/24\/arizona-gop-chairman-jeff-dewit-resigns-after-controversy-involving-kari-lake\/\">releasing a recording<\/a>\u00a0of the state party chairman offering her a\u00a0 lucrative job if she passed on a Senate race this cycle.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, Lake so mistrusts her state party that she secretly recorded the party chairman offering what sounds like a bribe.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr6_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>At the end of last year, the Arizona party\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/azmirror.com\/blog\/inevitable-theyll-go-broke-the-azgops-financial-situation-gets-worse\/\">reported having less than $15,000 in the bank<\/a>. What a perfect microcosm for the broken status of Republican party politics nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>The top-rated, televised example of the party taking public falls comes from <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> coverage of the House.<\/p>\n<p>Having failed to generate a red wave in 2022 midterms, the House GOP has its feet tied up by far-right\u2019s demands, because they need every vote just to maintain their majority.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"ad-unit ad-unit--mr7_ab\"><\/aside>\n<p>When Speaker Johnson and the House GOP embarrassed itself on the failed effort to impeach the Homeland Security secretary, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.)\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/gaetz-says-george-santos-never-missed-more-following-failed-mayorkas-ouster\">joked<\/a>: \u201cI\u2019ve never missed George Santos more.\u201d Santos had been expelled while <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-edny\/pr\/congressman-george-santos-charged-conspiracy-wire-fraud-false-statements-0\">under indictment for fraud<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Gaetz\u2019s quip was a practical reminder of how thin the GOP House Majority is: 219 Republicans, 212 Democrats and 4 vacancies.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Even when presented with an immigration reform bill endorsed by border guards, the Chamber of Commerce and the conservative editorial page of The Wall Street Journal, the bill was rejected by House Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>By following Trump\u2019s lead, Johnson found himself unable to accept a bill to increase the number of border security patrol agents; funding to speed the handling of asylum claims; and power for the president to close the border during any surge of illegal crossings.<\/p>\n<p>Now the House GOP faces a possible failure on funding for critically important U.S. allies in Ukraine and Israel, again because of opposition from Trump.<\/p>\n<p>With Trump likely to be at the top of the GOP ticket in November there is no rush of serious Republican newcomers running for Congress.
