\n Buddy Duress, known for his role alongside Robert Pattinson in the Safdie Brothers\u2019 Good Time<\/em>, has died. He was 38. <\/p>\n

\n Duress, born Michael C. Stathis, died of \u201ca cardiac arrest from a drug cocktail\u201d in November 2023, his brother Christopher Stathis confirmed to People<\/a><\/em> on Tuesday. <\/p>\n

\n Duress was also known for his performance as Mike, a drug dealer in the Safdie Brothers\u2019 2014 Heaven Knows What<\/em> and. In Good Time<\/em>, released 2017 and based partially on Duress\u2019 life, he played Ray, a recently released criminal to Pattinson\u2019s protagonist Constantine \u201cConnie\u201d Nikas. <\/p>\n

\n In a 2017 SSense<\/em> interview<\/a>, Duress said he first met Josh Safdie in 2013, following his release from jail for drug charges. He landed the role in Heaven Knows What<\/em> shortly after, but was sent back jail before the film\u2019s premiere for skipping a drug in-patient program. <\/p>\n

\n \u201cYou know, I still look back at it. If I had went to that program, I wouldn\u2019t have been in\u00a0Heaven Knows What<\/em>, and I probably wouldn\u2019t be an actor right now,\u201d Duress said at the time. \u201cThat\u2019s the honest truth. I wouldn\u2019t.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n Following Duress\u2019 second release from jail, the Safdies used the actor\u2019s journal to adapt his story for their Good Time<\/em> script<\/a>, per the Los Angeles Times<\/a>.<\/em> <\/p>\n

\n Duress went on to star in several more feature-length and short films, including 86\u2019d<\/em>,\u00a0The Mountain<\/em>,\u00a0The Great Darkened Days<\/em> and Flinch<\/em>. <\/p>\n

\n \u201cBuddy was pure electricity on screen,\u201d Flinch<\/em> director Cameron Van Hoy told People<\/em>. \u201cWorking with him was one of the great adventures of my life. He was a kind person who loved making films. Despite any troubles he was going through in life he somehow managed to put them aside when it came time to work. We grew quite close after the production of our film\u00a0Flinch<\/em>. I\u2019m heartbroken that his life came to an end as it did.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n Duress was born in Queens, New York, in May 1985. He is survived by his mother, Jo-Anne and younger brother, Christopher.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
