It may be a guy that you\u2019ve been flirting with back and forth, who will dis<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ear for weeks, and then send an ambiguous \u201cHey, how\u2019s it going?\u201d text.<\/p>\n<p>Or, it may be someone you went on a few dates with, who isn\u2019t asking you out again, but will occasionally like one of your photos on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a> or Instagram, or send you a message that has no significance, other than to pop back into your mind.<\/p>\n<p>We asked several experts about why breadcrumbing happens and how to avoid it. Read on for more information about the dating trend.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Why_do_people_do_it\"><\/span>Why do people do it?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>\u201cA lot of it is just ego,\u201d Gandhi explains. The other person could just be <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:3;pos:1\" href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/health\/do-you-have-narcissist-your-life-7-subtle-signs-t104192\" data-ylk=\"slk:narcissistic;cpos:3;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">narcissistic<\/a>, seeking constant validation and attention even if they have no desire to commit to anyone. Or, they may just want to keep all of their options open, Gandhi adds.<\/p>\n<p>However, dating coach <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:4;pos:1\" href=\"http:\/\/www.evanmarckatz.com\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:Evan Marc Katz;cpos:4;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Evan Marc Katz<\/a>, author of \u201cWhy He Disappeared,\u201d also challenged daters to put themselves in the other person\u2019s shoes \u2014 it\u2019s likely, he tells TODAY, that daters have themselves unintentionally led someone on in a similar manner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMen are not mysterious creatures,\u201d Katz says. The man could be talking to multiple women, or secretly in love with an ex, or had a hard week at work. His actions, Katz says, are more selfish than calculating \u2014 he\u2019s not considering the consequences of his confusing actions, just as women might not consider the consequences of reaching out to catch up with an ex.<\/p>\n<p>But that doesn\u2019t mean that you need to play along with these sorts of digital <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>s. Here are a few tips on how to spot and respond to breadcrumbing.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_spot_breadcrumbing\"><\/span>How to spot breadcrumbing<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Watch_out_for_laziness\"><\/span>Watch out for laziness.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>One way to spot a person who is breadcrumbing? Look at their texts. They may, for instance, leave out letters or avoid writing out complete words \u2014 writing out things like, \u201cHow r u,\u201d for instance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the ultimate in lazy,\u201d Gandhi says. \u201cIt just shows a lack of effort.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The same goes for someone who only likes your posts on social media, or only sends the occasional \u201chey\u201d text. Someone that really likes you, Gandhi says, is going to make an effort to see and spend time with you \u2014 not just text you every now and then.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Pay_attention_to_the_pace_of_your_relationship\"><\/span>Pay attention to the pace of your relationship.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>A healthy relationship will be paced right, according to Gandhi. Over the first couple of weeks, you may go out on one date per week. That could increase to two dates a week, and then more \u2014 the important thing to note is whether you are naturally building momentum.<\/p>\n<p>If, you\u2019ve only gone out on one date over a handful of weeks, and they haven\u2019t set up a new date, then \u201cthey&#8217;re evidently not that interested in getting serious about you right now, for any number of reasons,\u201d Katz says.<\/p>\n<p>The solution? Look out for consistent pacing over time to know when a person is pursuing you with intention.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Dont_make_excuses\"><\/span>Don\u2019t make excuses.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>It\u2019s easy for women to feel that a guy may need encouragement, or that he\u2019s a little bit different than other guys. But, Gandhi warned, don\u2019t make excuses for someone else.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNobody is too busy to call you or to see you, no matter what they say,\u201d Gandhi says. She\u2019s even known clients who have flown to a city where a woman was on a layover, just to spend time with her.<\/p>\n<p>And don\u2019t worry about being too picky \u2014 you have to be when it comes to things like consistency, reliability and kindness, Gandhi says. If someone doesn\u2019t live up to your standards, cut them loose.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Stop_responding\"><\/span>Stop responding.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Ultimately, you may just have to stop engaging with this person. \u201cIf you feel like somebody is just throwing you crumbs, stop picking up the crumbs,\u201d Gandhi says. If a person really wants to be with you, they&#8217;re going to amp up their efforts in response.<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t forget that you are the CEO of your own love life, Katz adds, and the people you date are interns applying for a job. \u201cFocus your energies on the people who do follow up,\u201d he advises.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Or_call_out_the_behavior\"><\/span>Or, call out the behavior.<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>\u201cCall them on it,\u201d advises <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-i13n=\"cpos:5;pos:1\" href=\"http:\/\/www.iankerner.com\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:Ian Kerner;cpos:5;pos:1;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Ian Kerner<\/a>, Ph.D, and licensed psychotherapist. \u201cGive them a small window to respond, and then block their number if you don\u2019t like what they\u2019re telling you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kerner notes that in his experience, women have been the ones breadcrumbing guys.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor some women breadcrumbing is a way of flirting and keeping options open.
