\n It\u2019s the Manhattan deli where heroes are made.<\/p>\n

A Washington Heights shop owner pulled an injured pedestrian out from beneath a car that just ran over him \u2014 preventing certain catastrophe Saturday morning when the driver reversed toward the victim moments after the daring rescue, according to an eyewitness and stunning surveillance footage obtained by The Post.<\/p>\n

The drama unfolded at 7:11 a.m. outside the Avi Deli at West 157th Street and Amsterdam Avenue when the driver of a 2005 blue BMW slammed into the unidentified victim as he crossed the street.<\/p>\n

\u201c[The driver] made a sudden right turn on Amsterdam \u2014 he was doing 20-30 miles on a turn!\u201d store owner Av Balawi said. \u201cHe strikes the guy, but there was a fire hydrant there and the car was stuck.\u201d<\/p>\n

The victim, who Balawi, 23, described as about 45 years old, was pinned under the car between the two tires by the driver\u2019s side.<\/p>\n

\u201cI saw the guy under the car on the camera and that\u2019s when I came right out to see what\u2019s going on,\u201d Balawi said. Fearing the driver might try to throw the car in reverse to get away \u2014 crushing the trapped man \u2014 Balawi took decisive action.\u201dI had three seconds to think. He looked at me. I looked at him. He was bleeding. He wanted to talk, but he can\u2019t. Something was telling me \u2018pull him out!\u2019 \u2018pull him out.\u2019<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Balawi heard the BMW\u2019s engine revving.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe RPM was loud. I know he was going to try and do something stupid, so I have to pull this guy out,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

So he grabbed the helpless victim, \u201cwho couldn\u2019t breathe, he couldn\u2019t do anything,\u201d out by his legs and then tended to his head with a towel soaked in alcohol.<\/p>\n

\u201cI didn\u2019t want him to get germs,\u201d noted the conscientious deli man.<\/p>\n

Seconds later, the BMW driver put the car in reverse, striking another vehicle, a wall and then another car, before taking off on foot.<\/p>\n

Police later caught up with the driver, according to cops, who didn\u2019t immedia<\/a>tely identify him.<\/p>\n

The Yemen-born Balawi, whose hero sandwiches are popular in the neighborhood \u2014 insisted he wasn\u2019t one.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s God, not me. Everything happens for a reason,\u201d he said. \u201cI was there for reason and if you do good, good things come back to you\u2026I know that God will always take care of me. I\u2019m not really religious, but I believe in Karma, trust me.\u201d\n <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
