\n From a pandemic and Hollywood\u2019s dual strikes to fundraising issues, film festivals have faced a number of challenges in recent years. But a new one is braving the scene and about to hit the circuit. <\/p>\n

\n The Los Angeles Festival of Movies<\/a> will present its inaugural edition on April 4-7, co-presented by MUBI and Mezzanine and featuring 12 titles (one world premiere), three 4K restorations, a featured artist talk, documentary series and a short film program. Passes are currently on sale<\/a> with single tickets on sale March 14. LAFM screenings will take place at three recently opened venues across Los Angeles: Vidiots in Eagle Rock, 2220 Arts + Archives in Historic Filipinotown and Now Instant Image Hall in Chinatown.<\/p>\n

\n A24\u2019s I Saw the TV Glow<\/em> from filmmaker Jane Schoenbrun will open the fest with a West Coast premiere at Vidiots on April 4. Closing LAFM three days later will be the world premiere of Conner O\u2019Malley and Danny Scharar\u2019s Rap World<\/em>, also at Vidiots.<\/p>\n

\n In addition to those two titles, the feature slate includes Lev Kalman and Whitney Horn\u2019s Dream Team<\/em>, Bill Ross IV and Turner Ross\u2019s Gasoline Rainbow<\/em>, India Donaldson\u2019s Good One<\/em>, Eduardo Williams\u2019 The Human Surge 3<\/em>, Tana Gilbert\u2019s Malqueridas<\/em>, Bridgett M. Davis\u2019 Naked Acts<\/em>, Artemis Shaw and Prashanth Kamalakanthan\u2019s New Strains<\/em>, Lance Oppenheim\u2019s Ren Faire<\/em>, Chantal Akerman\u2019s Toute Une Nuit<\/em>, and Niki de Saint Phalle\u2019s Un R\u00eave Plus Long Que La Nuit<\/em> (preceded by Maximilla Lukacs\u2019 Realms<\/em>). <\/p>\n

\n \u201cThis lineup is a snapshot of the past and present landscape of independent cinema, and a group of films we feel very passionately about. We\u2019re really proud to be presenting such a varied group of films that are all ambitious, personal, and self-determined,\u201d said LAFM founders Micah Gottlieb and Sarah Winshall in a joint statement.<\/p>\n
