Most don\u2019t have the budget for an in-house cybersecurity team.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe\u2019ve developed a scalable platform that not only strengthens a business\u2019s defences against cyber threats but also quickly delivers insurance coverage,\u201d said Job Kuijpers, the startup\u2019s CEO, who was previously the director of the National Communications Security Agency for the Dutch intelligence service.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Cybercrime_scourge\"><\/span><b>Cybercrime scourge<\/b><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ransomware attacks (where cybercriminals hold someone\u2019s data hostage until the victim pays for it back) saw a significant increase last year, according to <\/span><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.digitalsme.eu\/57-surge-of-cyberattacks-in-europe-flagged-by-digital-sme-report\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">data<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the European Digital SME Alliance. For instance, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">last May saw 575 attacks in Europe, more than double the 223 recorded a year earlier.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The most prolific of these attackers was LockBit, an infamous Russian ransomware gang that was <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">disrupted<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> last month. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Around 60% of small companies that are hacked by groups like these go out of business within six months, said Eye Security.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spikes in cybercrime have pushed EU regulators to take action. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Europe\u2019s Network and Information Security Directive (NISD) was updated last year, including more stringent reporting requirements for companies. From October 17, 2024, businesses who don\u2019t report a hack risk a fine of up to \u20ac10mn or 2% of their annual revenue.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The rule changes are leaving businesses scrambling to get their affairs in order. This, naturally, is good <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">news<\/a> for Eye Security.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe felt very strongly that companies deserved better. We also realised that there are not enough security specialists to help every company in Europe.
