Like it or not, we&#8217;re talking about J.Lo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe\u2019s an anomaly,\u201d culture critic Jack Rico told NBC <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a>. &#8220;Today, I don\u2019t think it\u2019s possible to fully comprehend and grasp how special Jennifer Lopez is. &#8230; She should be a case study, the same way we have college <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsandiego.com\/news\/local\/bad-bunny-a-pop-culture-figure-that-transcends-boundaries-gets-graduate-class-at-san-diego-state-university\/3053818\/\" data-ylk=\"slk:classes for Bad Bunny;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">classes for Bad Bunny<\/a> <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/popculture\/music\/taylor-swift-college-courses-rcna127402\" data-ylk=\"slk:or Taylor Swift;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">or Taylor Swift<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a way, the Lopez enigma is at the center of her enduring power as someone who marked a generation of millennials \u2014 especially Latino millennials like me.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"caas-figure\">\n<div class=\"caas-figure-with-pb\" style=\"max-height: 828px\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"caas-img-container caas-img-loader\" style=\"padding-bottom:67%\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"caas-img caas-lazy has-preview\" alt=\"Jennifer Lopez attends the Valentino Haute Couture Spring\/Summer 2024  show in Paris. She spent $20 million of her own money in a multi<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a> project that leans into her love life, her way.<\/p>\n<p>In \u201cThis Is Me&#8230; Now,\u201d Lopez takes her sometimes questionable and even eye-rolling relationships and shines on them a spotlight few artists at her level would dare to do, focusing mainly on her rekindled romance with now-husband actor Ben Affleck. The result? The song catapulted Lopez\u2019s music career following <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/latino\/-magic-selena-returns-theaters-25-years-later-director-gregory-nava-sa-rcna22535\" data-ylk=\"slk:her breakout performance;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">her breakout performance<\/a> as the slain \u201cQueen of Tejano Music\u201d Selena Quintanilla in the 1997 film \u201cSelena,\u201d which turned her into a Hollywood movie star and helped cement Selena&#8217;s musical legacy to a younger generation like me.<\/p>\n<p>Lopez then established herself as a mega pop star with iconic music videos and hits like \u201cLet\u2019s Get Loud\u201d and \u201cWaiting for Tonight&#8221; from her debut album \u201cOn The 6.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first album I ever owned was the Backstreet Boys\u2019 1999 album \u201cMillenium\u201d \u2014 who didn&#8217;t succumb to the boy band craze of the 1990s? But the one I cherished most was Lopez\u2019s 2001 album \u201cJ.Lo.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At 7, I used crayons to label my &#8220;J.Lo&#8221; album with my name in case I lost it while taking it everywhere in my portable CD player. That same week, Lopez starred in the romantic comedy \u201cThe Wedding Planner\u201d \u2014 which topped the box office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen she has the No. 1 record, and the No. 1 movie at the exact same time for all <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/general\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"3\" title=\"General\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">general<\/a> audiences, it\u2019s nothing short of a miracle,\u201d Rico said. In fact, the milestone made Lopez the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.grammy.com\/news\/run-the-world-jennifer-lopez-brought-latin-culture-center-stage-for-two-decades\" data-ylk=\"slk:first woman;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">first woman<\/a> to simultaneously have a top film and album on opening week.<\/p>\n<p>As a kid who loved performing and once aspired to be a dancer, seeing a fellow Puerto Rican succeed at this epic scale gave me confidence in my own identity from a very young age.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"An_icon_from_the_Latin_music_%E2%80%98explosion\"><\/span><strong>An icon from the Latin music &#8216;explosion&#8217; <\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Lopez achieved superstar status alongside a few other artists of Hispanic descent who reached global success during the Latin music explosion of the late 1990s and early 2000s.<\/p>\n<p>If there was a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/moru\/index.htm\" data-ylk=\"slk:Mount Rushmore;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Mount Rushmore<\/a> for the <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/lithub.com\/like-a-tidal-wave-tracing-the-inescapable-explosion-of-latin-music\/#:~:text=But%20the%20Latin%20Explosion%20of,the%20cover%20of%20Time%20magazine.\" data-ylk=\"slk:Latin explosion;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">Latin explosion<\/a>, the faces of Lopez, Ricky Martin, Marc Anthony and Shakira would be carved in it \u2014 and maybe Christina Aguilera, who is Ecuadorian American, and Enrique Iglesias, <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/latino\/latinos-own-disown-hispanic-journey-harness-identity-n1279309\" data-ylk=\"slk:a Hispanic;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp\">a Hispanic<\/a> from Spain, if we had more space.<\/p>\n<p>Growing up at this time, I thought it was always this way. Her innate code-switching abilities has helped her become a naturally shapeshifting entertainer, a unique quality that&#8217;s kept her in the pop culture zeitgeist for nearly three decades.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe can be 40. She can be 50. She can be 85. And she still can pull that off,&#8221; Cobo said. &#8220;Not very many people can do that &#8230; This is not simply someone who\u2019s here for celebrity. She promised she would take me the next time Lopez had a concert in my homeland, but that was the only show Lopez ever did there.
