Before their passing, Nex informed a family member over text that they had been \u201cjumped\u201d by three girls on February 7, leading them to be taken to the hospital since their head was \u201crepeatedly [beaten]\u201d across the floor. While in the emergency room, Nex\u2019s grandmother and legal guardian, <strong>Sue Benedict<\/strong>, contacted the <strong>Owasso Police Department<\/strong> about the fight and learned the school never filed a report.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Related: Honolulu Family \u2014 Including 3 Kids \u2014 Stabbed To Death In Apparent Murder-Suicide<\/strong><\/p>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div>\n<p>Nex was discharged hours later. However, they ended up back in the hospital when they suddenly collapsed at home the following morning. Unfortunately, the student died. Law enforcement would not say initially whether their death was related to injuries sustained in the attack. But they then revealed that \u201cpreliminary information\u201d from the medical examiner\u2019s office found Nex \u201cdid not die as a result of trauma\u201d from the brawl.<\/p>\n<div style=\"min-height:120px;width:100%;float:none;\">\n<div id=\"section-65f2f680ddc62-paragraph-slot\" class=\"lazyload-unit\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Police did not share more information at the time about what actually caused the teen\u2019s death, as they were still waiting for \u201ctoxicology results and other ancillary testing results.\u201d Weeks later, though, the official cause of death was announced. And the results are heartbreaking\u2026<\/p>\n<p>According to an autopsy report from Oklahoma\u2019s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and obtained by <em>KABC-TV<\/em> on Wednesday, Nex died by suicide. So, so sad.\u00a0<em>The New York Times <\/em>further reported they had been found with a \u201ccombined toxicity\u201d of diphenhydramine, which is an antihistamine used for allergies, and fluoxetine, which is a drug often used to treat depression. The Owasso Police Department issued a statement on <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Facebook<\/a><\/strong> regarding the medical examiner\u2019s findings:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cFrom the beginning of this investigation, Owasso Police observed many indications that this death was the result of suicide. However, investigators did not wish to confirm that information without the final results being presented by the Oklahoma Medical Examiner\u2019s Office.\u201d<\/p>\n<div style=\"min-height:120px;width:100%;float:none;\">\n<div id=\"section-65f2f680ddc66-paragraph-slot\" class=\"lazyload-unit\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Since their death, Nex\u2019s family has been vocal about the intense bullying the teen faced in school. And the loved ones told<em> ABC <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/news\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"2\" title=\"News\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">News<\/a><\/em> via their attorney in light of the recent news that they want to see some \u201cmeaningful change\u201d happen soon so no family has to go through a tragedy like this too:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe Benedicts know all too well the devastating effects of bullying and school violence, and pray for meaningful change wherein bullying is taken seriously and no family has to deal with another preventable tragedy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"clear\"><\/div>\n<p>At this time, the Department of Education has opened an investigation into the Owasso Public Schools following a complaint from the Human Rights Campaign related to the bullying Nex faced.
