RuPaul<\/strong> did not hold back while talking about his past drug use!<\/p>\n

On the latest episode of the Call Her Daddy<\/em> podcast, the 63-year-old mastermind behind RuPaul\u2019s Drag Race<\/em> shared how he was a drug user for \u201c30 years\u201d of his life. And your jaws will drop at this detail: he began using at the age of 10! RuPaul recalled:<\/p>\n

\u201cI started using when I was 10 years old. I started smoking weed when I was 10 years old. It was a different time\u2026 It was a different thing. It\u2019s not like people think of it today.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

10 YEARS OLD! Wow! And just three years later, when he was 13 years old, he started to experiment with hard drugs.<\/p>\n

Although RuPaul doesn\u2019t remember how the substance affected him at the time \u2014 after all it\u2019s been a LONG time \u2014 he did note he \u201cwasn\u2019t afraid of drugs.\u201d In fact, he continued to use for decades afterward. Through his struggles with substance abuse, the television personality insisted he \u201cnever shot up\u201d but said he \u201cdropped acid every weekend\u201d in his 20s:<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery weekend. Four hits of acid every weekend. It was the proof I had that this world is an illusion. That everything you think you know about solid objects or what people are is a lie. I had that suspicion before I dropped acid, so when I dropped acid, it was like, \u2018Yes, this is it exactly!\u2019 The people who freak out\u2026 those are the people that it never occurred to them that this is an illusion \u2026 It lifts the veil of the illusion, the fantasy that we collectively agree to in our lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

Well, that\u2019s\u2026 Huh. And that isn\u2019t the only positive impression RuPaul had about his drug use. Looking back, he felt that \u201cthe first 20\u201d years of his drug use \u201cwere a blast\u201d and \u201ca great time.\u201d However, \u201cthose last 10,\u201d according to the singer, \u201cwere pure hell.\u201d<\/p>\n

Despite the rough last decade, he surprisingly doesn\u2019t regret his 30 years of drug use! He told host Alex Cooper<\/strong>\u00a0he thanks \u201cGod for the drugs and alcohol, because it saved my life.\u201d Why? He explained it gave him some time to become \u201cstrong enough\u201d to deal with his past trauma before eventually finding a program that worked:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt gave me a layaway plan, a deferment plan until I was strong enough to deal with what was going on. Thankfully, I found a 12-step program that really, really, really helped me so much that I am in love with. I wouldn\u2019t be here if it wasn\u2019t for that\u2026 The success I have today, I wouldn\u2019t have that if it weren\u2019t for this 12-step program\u2026 because it gives you all the processing tools to deal with all of the trauma of what life is.\u201d<\/p>\n
