Lil Mama has opened up about her infamous crashing of JAY-Z and Alicia Keys\u2018 VMAs performance back in 2009, making it clear that the fallout afterwards left her \u201churt.\u201d<\/p>\n

That\u2019s the confession she made during an interview on The Jay Hill Network<\/em> on Thursday (March 14), wherein she also revealed that the subsequent backlash took a serious toll on her mental health.<\/p>\n

\u201cYeah, in the beginning, I was hurt,\u201d she began. \u201cTyrese called my phone as soon as I got home. He was like, \u2018Bro, you didn\u2019t tell me you was performing!\u2019 First of all, my heart is racing. I\u2019m already mad embarrassed.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had to deal with Ed Lover on the radio in the morning, Wendy Williams, Angie Martinez, who talked to JAY, and he was just like, \u2018Yeah, you know. I didn\u2019t like it.\u2019 He was so angry, and I was just trying my best to do everything I could do. After a while, I was like, \u2018Forgive yourself, bro. Move forward.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cBro, I was hurt. I was depressed. I was like, \u2018Yo, what\u2019s going on?\u2019 And then you got everybody telling you, \u2018You\u2019re doing bad.\u2019 People pointing at you, like, \u2018What did you do?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Back in 2009, Alicia Keys teamed up with JAY-Z to perform their hit song \u201cEmpire State of Mind\u201d at the MTV VMAs.<\/p>\n

Lil Mama was, app<\/a>arently, so moved by the performance that she hopped onstage to serve as the unofficial hypeman \u2014 even as Hov\u2019s wife,\u00a0Beyonc\u00e9, unsuccessfully tried to stop her from becoming a Twitter<\/a> trending topic by repeatedly yanking her arm.<\/p>\n

Despite Lil Mama becoming the punchline of many jokes afterward, Keys told The Morning Hustle<\/em>\u00a0in October 2021 that\u00a0she wasn\u2019t even aware of the rapper\u2019s presence.<\/p>\n

\u201cListen, to this day, I truly never knew she was even on the stage \u2014 that\u2019s the craziest part of the whole thing for me,\u201d she said. \u201cI was on that stage, [JAY-Z] was in the middle, she was on the other side of Jay, and I never saw her.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then, back in March 2023, Keys and Lil Mama\u00a0shared a warm embrace at an event in New York City as\u00a0Teyana Taylor\u00a0looked on. While it\u2019s unclear what the event was for \u2014 though\u00a0Revolt<\/a><\/em>\u00a0suggested it was to celebrate Taylor\u2019s latest film,\u00a0A Thousand and One<\/em>\u00a0\u2014 it\u2019s the video of the \u201cGirl on Fire\u201d singer and the \u201cLip Gloss\u201d rapper-turned-actor that sent social media into a tizzy.<\/p>\n
