There are levels beyond this, but this fifth dimension beyond the astral realm is where the 21-year-old artist resides. That all may sound a little silly, but on last year\u2019s intense <i>LVL 5 P1<\/i>, these high-minded philosophical conceits came through in Bk\u2019s starkly emotional songwriting about relationships, even if those softer songs were interspersed with some of the surliest industrial knockers in recent memory. <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            Out today, Bktherula\u2019s latest album <i>LVL 5 P2<\/i> finds the Atlanta r<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>er folding more mainstream sounds into her repertoire. At its best, the synthesis of <i>P2<\/i> yields superfun songs that could climb into your most played overnight; at its worst, you\u2019re still listening to one of the most versatile rappers in her cohort, albeit making less interesting songs. Clocking in at a svelte 30 minutes, <i>LVL 5 P2<\/i> functions best not as a sequel, but as a companion to its predecessor \u2014 which makes sense when you remember that <i>P2<\/i> stands not for \u201cPart 2\u201d but \u201cPlayer 2.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content_block paragraph triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-260737\" class=\"content_block paragraph embed triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\">\n    <iframe style=\"border-radius:12px\" src=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/embed\/album\/7cVPqKEV2caeqpj7T2m7hm?utm_source=generator\" width=\"100%\" height=\"352\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"\" allow=\"autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; fullscreen; picture-in-picture\" loading=\"lazy\"><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-260734\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            Bktherula is a chameleonic rapper-singer capable of twisting on a dime. Her slippery vocals tend to stick to one register for most of a track, but that doesn\u2019t matter much when her gruff barks and emotive falsettos are so im<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">media<\/a>te and visceral. And considering most of the songs on <i>LVL 5 P2<\/i> evaporate around the 120-second mark, it\u2019s hard for any one of Bk\u2019s styles to overstay its welcome. Instead, the breakneck pivots lend themselves to dramatic scene shifts, the way momentum might ratchet up in a fast-paced thriller.<\/p>\n<p>            Take the album\u2019s opening suite, where the gnashing cacophony of \u201cCODE\u201d softens into the warp drive synths of the downtempo \u201cNUN\u201d before Bk sneers all over the lurching \u201cTATTI.\u201d On \u201cCODE,\u201d she\u2019s semi-manic, reworking boilerplate tropes in her frenzied verses: \u201cRan off with your bitch she turnin\u2019 around and touchin\u2019 her toes \/ These n***as they hate me in public, in private they hittin\u2019 me \u2018yo.\u2019\u201d But the hedonistic exterior belies a surprisingly soft center \u2014 \u201cNUN\u201d finds Bktherula reminiscing on old photos with an ex-girlfriend who dumped her (\u201cWhatever you want I would get it \/ As long as your ass gon forgive me\u201d).<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-260739\" class=\"content_block breaker triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left video\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"video_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\" style=\"padding-top: 56.25%;\">\n<p>    <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Bktherula - TATTI (Official Music Video)\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/rreBbUTzsQw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><script>\n \/\/trackYouTubeVideo('260739');\n<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-260735\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            Splitting the difference between gangster rap tough talk and quiet storm pillow talk is de rigueur for plenty of her contemporaries, but both volumes of <i>LVL 5<\/i> stand out from the crowd thanks to strong production by azure and Simmyauto that largely avoids sonic clich\u00e9. Drilling down on the sounds of <i>LVL 5 P1<\/i>, <i>P2<\/i> is a little less inventive than its predecessor \u2014 there\u2019s a very cool Cash Cobain feature and a handful of songs echo other artists \u2014 but on the whole remains compulsively listenable.<\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            Although I\u2019m more partial to Bktherula in take-no-prisoners rap mode over titanic beats, she\u2019s only grown more adept as a singer. The back half of the record includes the squeakily moody \u201cWISHUWASDACREW,&#8221; the billowing lead single \u201cCRAYON,\u201d and the grandiose sweep of \u201cFEATHERS.\u201d \u201cJUST MAKE SURE\u201d and \u201cRACKS UP\u201d sound a little like Lil Nas X and Ty Dolla $ign tracks, respectively, but Bk\u2019s assured delivery and pitch-perfect vocals make sure she comes off as inspired rather than derivative. <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-260740\" class=\"content_block breaker triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left video\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"video_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"fluid-width-video-wrapper\" style=\"padding-top: 56.25%;\">\n<p>    <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Bktherula - CRAYON (Official Music Video)\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/5h7Mpwz5Stc?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><script>\n \/\/trackYouTubeVideo('260740');\n<\/script><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content_block paragraph triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-260736\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            Other parts of the record are less impressive, though still well-executed. Second single \u201cTHE WAY\u201d is sweet and hypnotic, but doesn\u2019t feel memorable; you could say the same about early album cut \u201cBOI.\u201d Ken Carson-soundalike \u201cINSANE\u201d is frustratingly bland: rappers are supposed to blatantly bite more famous artists when they don\u2019t have any musical ideas of their own, and that isn\u2019t Bktherula. Where \u201cJUST MAKE SURE\u201d and \u201cRACKS UP\u201d at least feel fully lived in, \u201cINSANE\u201d feels more listless than locked in. Then there\u2019s \u201cWOMAN,\u201d which starts to gel roughly midway through Bk\u2019s opening verse before she passes the baton to J.I.D. It\u2019s a perfectly fine song, but the feature does feel out of place, especially compared to the zero-guests approach of <i>LVL 5 P1<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>            Despite its album billing, <i>LVL 5 P2<\/i> recalls the deluxe edition of <i>WUNNA<\/i>, which saw Gunna expanding and reorganizing the original record\u2019s tracklist to incredible results \u2014 the pivot in public reception for the reworked album compared to the original still impresses me nearly four years later. And who doesn\u2019t love a double feature? Considering <i>LVL 5 P1<\/i> is just 20 minutes long, blending both volumes in a playlist would yield a 50-minute LP that could stand tall against plenty of full-length releases from recent years.<\/p>\n<p>            Last fall, Bktherula <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/theface.com\/music\/bktherula-is-in-another-dimension-music\">discussed<\/a> the various characters she embodies on record: boisterous Rue Santan, poised princess Tanya, hedonist Rula, and demented Tanjenica. It\u2019s a testament to her range as a performer that even as character sketches, these personas feel musically distinct.
