{"id":613373,"date":"2024-03-19T15:02:54","date_gmt":"2024-03-19T12:02:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/en.buradabiliyorum.com\/german-film-awards-nominees-unveiled\/"},"modified":"2024-03-19T15:02:54","modified_gmt":"2024-03-19T12:02:54","slug":"german-film-awards-nominees-unveiled","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/german-film-awards-nominees-unveiled\/","title":{"rendered":"#German Film Awards Nominees Unveiled"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    The German Film Academy has announced the <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">movies<\/a> in competition this year for the German Film Awards, the local equivalent of the Oscars. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Matthias Glasner\u2019s epic family drama <em>Dying<\/em>, Timm Kr\u00f6ger\u2019s experimental sci-fi feature<em> The Universal Theory<\/em>, and <em>In the Blind Spot<\/em>, Ay\u015fe Polat\u2019s documentary-style conspiracy thriller set in modern-day Turkey, are among the favorites for this year\u2019s awards, called the Lolas. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <em>Dying<\/em>, which stars Lars Eidinger as a classical conductor with an extremely dysfunctional family, picked up nominations in every major category, including best film, best director and best screenplay nominations for Glasner, a best actor nom for Eidinger and a best actress nomination for Corinna Harfoch, who plays Eidinger\u2019s mother. In total, the film is up for nine Lolas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <em>The Universal Theory<\/em>, a black-and-white drama about the multiverse, is also in the running for the best film Lola, and Kr\u00f6ger is up for best director. <em>In the Blind Spot<\/em>, alongside its best film nomination, scored best director and best screenplay nominations for Polat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Adrian Goiginger\u2019s WW2 film <em>The Fox<\/em>, which premiered at the Tallinn Black Nights festival last year, picked up five nominations, including for best film. Also up for the Golden Lola for best film are Milena Aboyan\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> drama <em>Elaha<\/em> and Hans Steinbichler\u2019s Alpine period drama <em>A Whole Life<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    In the acting categories, <em>The Zone of Interest<\/em> lead Christian Friedl picked up a best supporting actor nomination for his turn in <em>15 Years<\/em>, Chris Kraus\u2019 sequel to his 2006 drama<em> Four Minutes<\/em>. Hannah Herzsprung, who reprises her role as the juvenile delinquent with an extraordinary musical talent, is also a contender in the best actress category. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    <em>Dying<\/em> was one of the critical favorites at this year\u2019s Berlin Film Festival, where Glasner won the Silver Bear for best screenplay. <em>The Universal Theory<\/em> premiered in Venice last year, winning the Venice independent critics\u2019 prize. Polat\u2019s<em> In The Blind Spot<\/em>, which premiered in Berlin\u2019s Encounters section last year, won the top prize at the Oldenburg Film Festival. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    The nominations were carried live on German TV, with German Culture Minister Claudia Roth presenting the nominees together with film academy presidents: Actress Alexandra-Maria Lara (<em>Downfall<\/em>) and director Florian Gallenberger (<em>John Rabe<\/em>). <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    In addition to being Germany\u2018s top cinema prize, the German Film Awards, or Lolas, are also the most lucrative, coming with some $3.25 million (\u20ac3 million) in prize money for the winners and nominees, which they can use to finance future projects. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    This year\u2019s Lola ceremony will be held in Berlin on May 3. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    Last year, \u0130lker \u00c7atak\u2019s Oscar-nominated <em>The Teachers\u2019 Lounge<\/em>, swept the board, winning the Golden Lola for best film, best director and best screenplay for \u00c7atak, as well as best actress for star Leonie Benesch. It beat out Edward Berger\u2019s multi-Oscar winning frontrunner\u00a0<em>All Quiet on the Western Front<\/em>, which was <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>arently punished by German academy voters for being a Netflix production. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/  a-font-body-m     \">\n    This year, the Lolas could be overshadowed by a more overtly political debate.
