Billie Eilish<\/strong> is throwing down the gauntlet\u2026 right at\u00a0Taylor Swift<\/strong>\u2018s feet it seems!<\/p>\n

The\u00a0What Was I Made For<\/em> singer spoke to\u00a0Billboard<\/em> on Thursday about all the work she\u2019s doing trying to keep her career eco-friendly, and in doing so couldn\u2019t avoid calling out artists who do the opposite. Obviously she\u2019s not careless enough to drop any names \u2014 that would be littering. But it\u2019s impossible not to think of Taylor when certain transgressions are described.<\/p>\n

When asked about using 100% recycled vinyl and biodegradable sugar cane shrink-wrap for Happ<\/a>ier Than Ever<\/em>, she drags artists who aren\u2019t being more thoughtful about their environmental impact:<\/p>\n

\u201cWe live in this day and age where, for some reason, it\u2019s very important to some artists to make all sorts of different vinyl and packaging\u2026 which ups the sales and ups the numbers and gets them more money and gets them more\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The interviewer notes \u201cit counts toward No. 1 albums.\u201d Billie isn\u2019t having it. She goes off, saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t even express to you how wasteful it is. It is right in front of our faces and people are just getting away with it left and right, and I find it really frustrating as somebody who really goes out of my way to be sustainable and do the best that I can and try to involve everybody in my team in being sustainable.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then it\u2019s some of the biggest artists in the world making f**king 40 different vinyl packages that have a different unique thing just to get you to keep buying more. It\u2019s so wasteful, and it\u2019s irritating to me that we\u2019re still at a point where you care that much about your numbers and you care that much about making money \u2014 and it\u2019s all your favorite artists doing that s**t.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Artists who have done multiple versions of their latest releases include\u00a0Beyonc\u00e9<\/strong>, Olivia Rodrigo<\/strong>, Travis Scott<\/strong>, and\u00a0Blink-182<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

But obviously Taylor is the first name that pops into your head when it comes to multiple versions, right? It makes sense she gives her fans a curated experience, but it\u2019s a fair point that it would only cost a small portion of profits to do it in a more eco-friendly way. Clearly Billie isn\u2019t feeling the pinch from the extra effort, right?<\/p>\n

Billie helped launch and fund REVERB\u2019s Music Decarbonization Project<\/strong>. She partially powered her\u00a0Lollapalooza<\/strong> set with zero-emissions batteries charged with solar, she partnered with Nike<\/strong> to start using recycled materials and vegan nubuck leather, she works to include water refill stations so fans can bring refillable bottles to her concerts to cut down on plastic bottle waste.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Bad Guy<\/em> singer says she\u2019s been struggling to make whatever changes she can since her career started \u2014 and laments how hard it is to get most people on board:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a never-ending f**king fight. As we all know, it\u2019s pretty impossible to force someone to care. All you can do is express and explain your beliefs, but a lot of people don\u2019t really understand the severity of the climate [crisis]. And if they do, they\u2019re like, \u2018Well, what\u2019s the point? We\u2019re all going to die anyway.\u2019 Believe me, I feel that way too. But \u2018what\u2019s the point\u2019 goes both ways: \u2018What\u2019s the point? I can do whatever I want. We\u2019re all going to die anyway.\u2019 Or, \u2018What\u2019s the point? I might as well do the right thing while I\u2019m here.\u2019 That\u2019s my view.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Damn. We guess the ball is in these other artists\u2019 court.<\/p>\n
