comedy, <i>Problemista<\/i>, wild-eyed art critic Elizabeth (Tilda Swinton) is trying to find a photo of her begonias. Frantically searching through her iPad to show her new assistant Alejandro (Torres) her garden in Maine, the atmosphere grows increasingly tense, as her mounting frustration turns into a <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/watch-movies-tv-seriess\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"8\" title=\"Watch Movies &amp; TV Series\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">series<\/a> of violent jabs against the display. <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            Already a ball of neuroses, Elizabeth only grows more and more terrifying with each swipe, close-up shots of her screen punctuated by a series of quick, disorienting cutaways to her messy loft. Except it isn\u2019t the blinking red light of her disconnected modem, or the pile of plastic bags in the corner, or the phone charger tangled around a stiletto heel that creates a sense of mad chaos. It\u2019s the stomach-knotting score, created from a slurry of unintelligible whispers and the persistent creep of an unsettling chromatic melody, all in perfect time with the watch-t<a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/download-scripts-themes-apps\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"9\" title=\"Download Scripts &amp; Themes &amp; Apps\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">app<\/a>ing of an impatient wood block. But with an eccentric plot and a cast of melancholic characters this unhinged, Rusli says it was natural to come up with an imaginative score of 53 tracks that run the gamut from enigmatic to euphoric to otherworldly. <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            Rusli is classically trained in 18th century Romantic-era composition and takes inspiration from rappers like A$AP Rocky,\u00a0Spaceghostpurrp, and they\u2019re a longtime admirer of sample-based production by\u00a0Flying Lotus\u00a0and Tyler the Creator. But what really informed the score of <i>Problemista<\/i> was their love of experimental ambient minimalists like William Basinski and John Cage, who realized that not all forms of repetition are the same.<\/p>\n<p>            \u201cWhat I loved about this film was knowing I was allowed to go there, so I just had such amazing time writing these melodies and letting them soar in certain places and loop in others\u2026 combining all these disparate sounds,\u201d Rusli says.<\/p>\n<p>            Adding that they\u2019ve always wanted to create something as \u201cstrange\u201d and wonderfully weird as <i>Problemista<\/i>, Rusli explained that Torres\u2019 off-beat brand of comedy meant it \u201clent itself to being versatile,\u201d so getting experimental \u201cworks with <i>Problemista<\/i> and [Torres\u2019] direction, because in certain situations those sounds could be really corny.\u201d <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            \u201cIn combination with how I was reading the script, I was like, \u2018Oh my god. I have to do this,\u2019\u201d they said.   <\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-260960\" class=\"content_block paragraph embed triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\">\n    <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Problemista | Official Trailer HD | A24\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/zbsk4okRUds?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content_block paragraph triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-260962\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            Inspired by Mica Levi\u2019s scores for films like <i>Under the Skin<\/i>, Rusli decided to use this opportunity to test the boundaries of film scoring, mainly through the hair-raising use of the Devil\u2019s Interval balanced out by grounding samples of organic instrumentation, like the low rumble of a didgeridoo and or the ethereal spiral of an Indonesian <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/game\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"7\" title=\"Game\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">game<\/a>lan. <\/p>\n<p>            You can hear the latter morph into a specter that haunts the slow-paced sci-fi horror of \u201cBureaucratic Limbo,\u201d a combination of keyboard clacks, filing cabinets, and a menacingly pitched-up recording of Rusli singing \u201cmeep meep meep meep meep,\u201d which soundtracks Alejandro\u2019s attempt to escape a labyrinth of cookie-cutter offices, connected by air vents and trap doors. Or the sinister \u201cThis Is Craigslist,\u201d with its threatening murmurs and low, earthy woodwinds that imbue an otherwise dreamlike scene, that envisions the platform as a gooey, glittery pink entity, with a menacing sense of looming dread. And armed with a collection of hundreds of sounds and synthesizers, Rusli was able to adapt the score to whatever the narrative \u2014 with its volatile moods, plot twists, and clashing characters \u2014 needed to counterbalance each extreme.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content_block paragraph triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-260957\" class=\"content_block paragraph embed triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\">\n    <iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"100%\" height=\"450\" scrolling=\"no\" frameborder=\"no\" allow=\"autoplay\" src=\"https:\/\/w.soundcloud.com\/player\/?url=https%3A\/\/api.soundcloud.com\/playlists\/1646755411&amp;color=%23ff5500&amp;auto_play=false&amp;hide_related=false&amp;show_comments=true&amp;show_user=true&amp;show_reposts=false&amp;show_teaser=true\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<div style=\"font-size: 10px; color: #cccccc;line-break: anywhere;word-break: normal;overflow: hidden;white-space: nowrap;text-overflow: ellipsis; font-family: Interstate,Lucida Grande,Lucida Sans Unicode,Lucida Sans,Garuda,Verdana,Tahoma,sans-serif;font-weight: 100;\"><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/robertouyangrusli\" title=\"Robert Ouyang Rusli\" style=\"color: #cccccc; text-decoration: none;\">Robert Ouyang Rusli<\/a> \u00b7 <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/soundcloud.com\/robertouyangrusli\/sets\/problemista-original-motion\" title=\"Problemista (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)\" style=\"color: #cccccc; text-decoration: none;\">Problemista (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-260959\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            While it was a difficult task, Rusli explained that they were able to express these ideas in a sonically cohesive way thanks to another unconventional sampling technique that started with Rusli wanting to focus on treating \u201cthe music like a character in the film with these Greek chorus-like voices.\u201d Featured in almost every track from the score, these choirs would chant melodies made up of rearranged syllables, taken from words related to each characters\u2019 \u201cdeepest fears and desires.\u201d Like \u201ccabbage\u201d and \u201cvisa\u201d appearing as \u201cba cat age\u201d and \u201csi va\u201d to form a sort of gibberish that\u2019s both playful and foreboding, akin to a sonic version of the uncanny valley.  <\/p>\n<p>            \u201cThroughout the score, you can hear these chants of the syllables depending on which character we&#8217;re following. I wanted this feeling of like a Greek chorus that&#8217;s propelling each character through their life journeys,\u201d Rusli says. The idea was to give the entire soundtrack a retro-future groove by blending the voices of the choir with synthesizers from the \u201870s and \u201880s to create something that sounds \u201creally alien-sounding and strange\u201d in what seems to be a warped optimism toward the future, represented in the film as a cryogenics company that doesn\u2019t know how to unfreeze their customers. <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            \u201cThis choir is this character floats in and out, accenting [and reacting to] things, drawing them out,\u201d they continue. \u201cLike when [Elizabeth] first mentions that she might be able to help him with his visa\u2026. these big moments are when the choir works so well.\u201d<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-260955\" class=\"content_block paragraph embed triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"media_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\">\n    <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Problemista | Crafting the Score with Composer Robert Ouyang Rusli\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/LAtay1jjU1E?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"content_block paragraph triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<style>\n<\/style>\n<div id=\"content_block-260961\" class=\"content_block paragraph text triple_gutter_right triple_gutter_left center_align\">\n<div class=\"content_inner_wrapper\">\n<div class=\"paragraph_wrapper center_align\">\n<p>            But aside from the occasional exaltation or a chintzy harmonic run that brings Walter Mercado to mind, the Greek chorus concept mostly haunts the score with a latent sense of distress and anxiety. You can feel it even on lighter tracks like \u201cSmart Phone for Cabbage Patch Kids,\u201d with its combination of harp strings and a Philip Glass-like piano trill creating that vintage showroom sparkle. The kind of discomfort associated with the banality of filling out a never-ending pile of forms or sitting inside a sterile cubicle for nine hours straight, which is fitting given that Alejandro is navigating the bureaucratic nightmare that is immigrating to the U.S. the entire film is riddled with more roadblocks than solutions, paintings of eggs and bank card fees and hourglasses that stand in the way of Alejandro\u2019s search for financial stability and his ability to stay in the U.S. <\/p>\n<p>            So it makes sense that Rusli\u2019s strange and surreal score spends most of the film in a frenzied agitation, treating toys \u2014 a symbol of childlike na\u00efvet\u00e9  \u2014 in an unexpectedly nerve-wracking way. toys are the entire reason Alejandro is stuck in processing purgatory in the first place, where Rusli says it doesn\u2019t really matter whether the \u201cannoying, monotonous, mechanical repetition\u201d comes from the squeak of a filing cabinet, or the tik-tok of an old office clock, or \u201cthe song that never ends\u2026 the one kids sing when they\u2019re young.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>            \u201cIt\u2019s the stuff that\u2019s just driving you insane. And it\u2019s going in endless loops to reflect the narrative,\u201d they says. <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            But what if you\u2019re able to break the seemingly endless loop? Well, that\u2019s the \u201cbeauty of propulsive anxiety,\u201d Rusli says.
