\n Rachel McAdams may not be in The Notebook<\/em> on Broadway<\/a>, but that doesn\u2019t mean she\u2019s any less excited about the show. <\/p>\n

\n During a conversation with Broadway.com editor-in-chief Paul Wontorek on The Broadway Show<\/em>, the Oscar nominee discussed her own debut on the Great White Way in new play Mary Jane<\/em> by Amy Herzog, who recently adapted\u00a0A Doll\u2019s House<\/em> starring Jessica Chastain. Two blocks away from the show, the musical adaptation of The Notebook<\/em> is taking place in front of sold-out crowds.<\/p>\n

\n \u201c[It\u2019s] crazy, just crazy,\u201d McAdams said of the coincidence of both shows playing at the same time. She went on to joke that people keep thinking she\u2019s starring in the musical adaptation of one of her breakout roles, based on the Nicholas Sparks best-selling novel. <\/p>\n

\n She recalled her friend\u2019s mom saying, \u201cWe\u2019re going to see Rachel on Broadway! And she\u2019s going to be singing and dancing!\u201d The Mean Girls<\/em> star noted, \u201c[My friend] was like, \u2018Um\u2026 I don\u2019t know if you are\u2026 I don\u2019t think you have the right show.\u2019 She was like, \u2018She\u2019s doing The Notebook<\/em>, right?\u2019 And he was like, \u2018No, she\u2019s not. She\u2019s not.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\n McAdams also reflected on the rain scene in the film adaptation that co-starred Ryan Gosling and how they\u2019re doing it in the musical. She noted that she hopes the iconic scene is handled a little bit gentler on Broadway than it was in the movie, where they were essentially \u201cdrowning\u201d in water from a fire hose. <\/p>\n

\n \u201cI can\u2019t wait to see it,\u201d the Doctor Strange<\/em> actress said of the Broadway adaptation. \u201cIt\u2019s so exciting to see it take on a whole other life like this. It blows my mind. And we didn\u2019t even know if anyone would see this movie when we were making it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Mary Jane<\/em> follows a single mother who uses optimism, humor and the help of the women around her to make her way through \u201can impossible family situation,\u201d per the production\u2019s descript<\/a>ion. The play opens April 23 at the Samuel J. Friedman Theatre.<\/p>\n
