Joe Budden has announced that he\u2019s not impressed with J. Cole\u2018s diss of Kendrick Lamar, \u201c7 Minute Drill,\u201d off of his surprise Might Delete Later<\/em> mixtape.<\/p>\n

On the latest episode of The Joe Budden Podcast<\/em>, which dropped on Saturday (April 6), the rapp<\/a>er-turned-podcaster shared his grievances about the hit freestyle.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe tone,\u201d he said about his main issue with the track. \u201cThis is my issue with this fucking narcoleptic sounding shit. This sounds like\u2026 if I was actively looking to cop fentanyl this is what I would put on. I want to hear him sound alive.\u201d<\/p>\n

While many rappers have appeared to take sides in the debate between J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar, one rapper who is steering clear of the controversy is Russ.<\/p>\n

On Friday (April 5th), when a fan asked, \u201cAre you picking a side?\u201d \u2014 a nod to Metro Boomin\u2019s now-famous message, \u201cOnce you pick a side stay there\u2026<\/a>\u201d in reference to the dispute \u2014 the \u201cWhat They Want\u201d rapper seized the chance to inject some humor into the situation.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m 31,\u201d he responded, taking to X (formerly Twitter<\/a>). The reply sparked mixed reactions from fans, with some agreeing, and others questioning the relevance of Russ\u2019 age to expressing his allegiance.<\/p>\n

\u201cLOL good answer,\u201d wrote one fan. \u201cThat\u2019s a good answer, like I\u2019m too old for this. Lmao! Cheers to your new age [birthday emoji],\u201d a second comment reads.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd? I\u2019m 48 years young and firmly planted on Team Kendrick,\u201d another wrote.<\/p>\n

On the mixtape\u2019s closing track, \u201c7 Minute Drill,\u201d Cole appears to reference K. Dot\u2019s recent disses at him and\u00a0Drake, and returns fire with some scathing bars of his own.<\/p>\n

Taking aim at the perceived quality of his friend-turned-foe\u2019s catalog, he raps:\u00a0\u201cYour\u00a0first shit\u00a0was classic, your\u00a0last shit\u00a0was tragic\/ Your\u00a0second shit\u00a0put n-ggas to sleep, but they gassed it\/ Your\u00a0third shit\u00a0was massive and that was your prime\/ I was trailin\u2019 right behind and I just now hit mine.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

He continues:\u00a0\u201cNow I\u2019m front of the line with a comfortable lead\/ How ironic, soon as I got it, now he want somethin\u2019 with me\/ Well, he caught me at the perfect time, jump up and see.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

In a nod to JAY-Z\u2019s \u201cTakeover\u201d track aimed at Nas, Cole implies the\u00a0Illmatic<\/em>\u00a0MC wouldn\u2019t be relevant had he not provoked Hov. He then likens his feud with Kendrick to a scene from\u00a0New Jack City<\/em>\u00a0where one character, Nino, reluctantly kills his own brother.<\/p>\n

Expressing conflicted feelings toward Kendrick, Cole admits he\u2019s reluctant to engage in conflict but maintains he\u2019s ready to hop in the mic to defend his title if necessary. Cole closes with a caution to fellow rappers and a teaser for his forthcoming album,\u00a0The Fall Off<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\u201c7 Minute Drill\u201d arrives just two weeks after\u00a0Kendrick Lamar took aim at J. Cole and Drake\u00a0in his guest verse on\u00a0Future\u00a0and\u00a0Metro Boomin\u2018s \u201cLike That,\u201d from their collaborative album\u00a0We Don\u2019t Trust You<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Referencing the pair\u2019s chart-topping single \u201cFirst Person Shooter,\u201d he rapped:\u00a0\u201cFuck sneak dissin\u2019, first-person shooter, I hope they came with three switches\/ I crash out like, \u2018Fuck rap,\u2019 diss Melle Mel if I had to.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
