\n Kevin Costner says he would \u201clove\u201d to return for the final episodes of Yellowstone<\/em><\/a> to finish off his character John Dutton. <\/p>\n

\n The actor was at CinemaCon promoting his upcoming film Horizon: An American Saga<\/em>, when he was asked about whether he\u2019d return to the hit Paramount Network drama after his turbulent app<\/a>arent departure from the project (and even threatening a lawsuit last year). <\/p>\n

\n In his most detailed public comments about the situation to date, Costner told Entertainment Tonight<\/em><\/a>, \u201cI\u2019d like to be able to do it but we haven\u2019t been able to \u2026 I thought I was going to make seven [seasons] but right now we\u2019re at five. So how it works out \u2014 I hope it does \u2014 but they\u2019ve got a lot of different shows going on. Maybe it will. Maybe this will circle back to me. If it does and I feel really comfortable with [it], I\u2019d love to do it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n That \u201cif I feel really comfortable\u201d comment is perhaps a bit of a crux, as reportedly Costner has wanted to approve his character\u2019s fate in the show. But co-creator Taylor Sheridan \u2014 like most showrunners \u2014 doesn\u2019t typically allow actors to determine their own storylines. <\/p>\n

\n \u201c[Dutton] needs to be proactive in what happens and I\u2019ve kind of had my own fantasy how [the character\u2019s final arc] might be,\u201d Costner added. \u201cBut that\u2019s Taylor\u2019s thing. I said as much to him a while back. I had thoughts how it could happen, but we just have to see.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n Time is definitely running out on a deal being struck. While Yellowstone<\/em> hasn\u2019t announced a start-of-production date, filming is expected to get underway soon and the scripts are already written. Media<\/a> news<\/a>letter Puck<\/a> has previously reported that \u201ceven if Costner significantly lowers his financial and time commitment demands, Sheridan may not want to bother reopening his finished scripts to accommodate a send-off for John Dutton.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n The network previously announced that the second half of\u00a0Yellowstone\u2019<\/em>s fifth season, which will close the book on the flagship series<\/a>, is set to premiere in November.\u00a0Though it\u2019s currently unclear if that target will still be feasible. <\/p>\n

\n Costner\u2019s prior comments about the stand-off came while he was testifying at his divorce hearing in late 2023, where he claimed he\u2019s owed $12 million for the not-yet-filmed second half of season five after Paramount \u201cwalked away\u201d from negotiations. The Golden Globe winner also said he might take the show to court to settle their differences. <\/p>\n

\n Meanwhile, Costner\u2019s own Western Horizon<\/em> is expected to premiere at Cannes next month. <\/p>\n

\n \u201cI\u2019d like to thank the Festival de Cannes for including my film\u00a0Horizon, An American Saga<\/em>\u00a0in this year\u2019s selection,\u201d said Costner in a statement. \u201cIt\u2019s been 20 years since I\u2019ve had the pleasure of being on the Croisette. I\u2019ve been waiting for the right time to return and I\u2019m proud to say that this time has come.\u00a0Horizon, An American Saga<\/em>\u00a0is a story that began 35 years ago, and I can\u2019t think of a better place than Cannes to reveal to the world the result of such a wonderful adventure. The French have always supported films and believed deeply in filmmaking. Just as I believe deeply in my film.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n The plot spans the four years of the Civil War and according to the official logline, \u201cexplores the lure of the Old West and how it was won \u2014 and lost \u2014 through the blood, sweat and tears of many.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Warner Bros. is set to release the first of the two\u00a0Horizon<\/em>\u00a0films June 28, with the second coming out two months later, on Aug. 16.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
