\n Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist were the first Golden Bachelor<\/em>\u00a0couple and less than two months after their engagement was revealed on television on Nov. 30, 2023, they tied the not in the ABC franchise\u2019s first-ever Golden Wedding<\/em>.<\/p>\n

\n That was a televised event on Jan. 4. Now, about three months later, the Bachelor<\/em>\u2018s history-making couple has announced they are getting a divorce.<\/p>\n

\n They sat down with Good Morning America<\/a><\/em> to reveal their decision, but offered little to an audience that will be wanting to know what happ<\/a>ened after witnessing their inspiring later-in-life love story unfold. ABC News<\/a> interviewer\u00a0Juju Chang\u2019s takeaway after the sit-down was, \u201cIt\u2019s a head-scratcher.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n One day before the pre-taped and live finale aired on the After the Final Rose <\/em>special \u2014 where the giddy senior couple, aged 70 for Turner and 72 for Nist, would go on to tell the world just how over-the-moon in love they were \u2014 The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>\u00a0published a report that raised questions about Turner\u2019s past. On the show, Turner said he hadn\u2019t dated anyone since the death of his wife. In the story, however, a woman, who requested anonymity, identified herself as Turner\u2019s ex-girlfriend and said they dated for more than two years.\u00a0When asked about the story\u00a0during post-finale press, Turner acknowledged \u201cthere\u2019s just enough truth in [the article],\u201d but brushed it off as not fitting \u201cwith all of the positive things that are going on in my life right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n When speaking Friday on GMA<\/em>, Nist insisted that the late-in-the-game<\/a> revelations, which also questioned his r\u00e9sum\u00e9, did not play a part in their split.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cGerry had already discussed that with me. He had explained it before the report was ever released, so we were good with that. It didn\u2019t play into it,\u201d said Nist.<\/p>\n

\n The couple, who were all smiles and even ended the sit-down by saying they still love one another, put it simply: \u201cWe\u2019ve come to the conclusion mutually that it\u2019s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage,\u201d said Turner. \u201cI root for her every day.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Confirming that means they will be getting a divorce, he added, \u201cWe just feel like it\u2019s best for the happiness of each of us to live apart.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Acknowledging that this blows up their previously shared plans for Nist to move to South Carolina to be with Turner, Nist said, \u201cWe looked at home after home but we never got to the point where we made that decision.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Nist and Turner said their decision to speak now was because they didn\u2019t want to pretend and let it play out, which means they will be returning the ring gifted by the show. (Chang confirmed after the interview that a prenuptial agreement was also in place.)<\/p>\n

\n And Nist and Turner insist they are still not giving up on love. \u201cDon\u2019t give up. Stay hopeful,\u201d said Nist to anyone searching for a second or third chance at love, no matter what age.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cI still love you,\u201d they each said to each other, before he kissed her hands.<\/p>\n
