If you were outraged on\u00a0Simone Biles<\/strong>\u2018 behalf last year, only to see her still supporting her husband after his comments\u2026 Well, prepare to get a booster shot of frustration!<\/p>\n

For those who didn\u2019t follow the controversy,\u00a0Jonathan Owens<\/strong>, who is also an athlete \u2014 a safety\u00a0in the NFL<\/strong>, was on a podcast called\u00a0The Pivot<\/em> back in December 2023. And he used his time to\u2026 well, to downplay his wife and her accomplishments.<\/p>\n

First, he made the outrageous claim he\u2019d never heard of her before they started dating. Maybe the most famous gymnast alive right now? From Team USA<\/strong>?? Yeah, not buying that one. That sounds to us like some junk you\u2019d read in a pickup artist book about how to neg a famous woman. Then when the other hosts, respecting what a baddie he was married to, asked how he landed such a woman, he corrected them \u2014 saying he felt HE was \u201cthe catch\u201d in the relationship:<\/p>\n

\u201cI always say that the men are the catch.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yeah. Wow. What a jerk, right?<\/p>\n

Simone publicly supported her hubby. But she had to be upset for real, right?\u00a0Well, if you\u2019ve been dying to know what the\u00a0Olympian<\/strong> thought of all this controversy behind closed doors, wait no longer. The 4-time gold medalist made her own podcast app<\/a>earance this week, opening up to Call Her Daddy<\/em> host\u00a0Alex Cooper<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

So where does Simone stand? Oh, still in Jonathan\u2019s corner. She was present at the interview, and well\u2026 let\u2019s just say red flags mean something different in gymnastics because she saw nothing wrong with what he said! Defending his words, she explained he \u201cnever said [she] wasn\u2019t a catch\u201d:<\/p>\n

\u201cHe said he was a catch. Because he is! I\u2019ve never met a man like him.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

No, he said he was\u00a0the<\/em> catch. There is a difference. He was saying that of the two of them, he<\/em> was the one everyone wanted. We\u2019re guessing she\u2019d heard that stuff he said about not knowing who she was before, too. Like on their second date, he probably was like, \u201cOh do you also do sports? What kind?\u201d It reads like she\u2019s bending over backwards to avoid being offended, which is \u2014 to be fair \u2014 not actually hard for her.<\/p>\n

Simone was so oblivious to the demeaning wording, the online reactions hit her like a case of the twisties:<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought everything was OK, and then I go on Twitter<\/a> and everybody\u2019s like, \u2018Divorce this man. He\u2019s mean!\u2019 I\u2019m like, \u2018He\u2019s the sweetest. He praises the ground that I walk on.\u2019 Truly, I\u2019ve never met a man like him\u2026 he truly goes out of his way to do anything for me.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Simone wasn\u2019t hurt by what her husband said. But she was upset about everyone\u2019s reaction to it! She explained:<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought it was hilarious at first and then it hurt my feelings. One night I broke down and I\u2019m like, \u2018Why are you guys talking about my husband like this? You don\u2019t know him. You don\u2019t know who he is and if anybody\u2019s met him, you know he\u2019s the sweetest guy, will do anything for anybody.’\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

She\u2019s acting like people are misjudging him \u2014 but they\u2019re judging what he\u00a0said<\/em>! And, you know, the obvious WTF comment about not knowing who she was. But all Simone sees is a great guy, a real \u201ccatch\u201d if you will \u2014 and anyone saying different is just being cruel:<\/p>\n

\u201cThat really hurt that they were talking about my husband like that. For me, it\u2019s like, talk about me all you want, but don\u2019t come for my family, never.\u201d<\/p>\n

We genuinely hope the entire world has misunderstood what her man was saying. Because otherwise it means he\u2019s truly sold her on the idea he\u2019s<\/em> the MVP in the relationship and she\u2019s just lucky to be along for the ride. And if that\u2019s true, it\u2019s really sad.<\/p>\n
