documents falsely claiming that Donald Trump won the state in 2020 are facing criminal consequences in Arizona for the first time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<partner-banner util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" class=\"spacer-large\" min-height=\"600\" fluid=\"\" outstream=\"\" momentum=\"\"><\/partner-banner>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2024\/04\/24\/arizona-fake-electors-indictments\/73184206007\/\">A state grand jury on Wednesday issued an indictment<\/a> in which the electors are each charged with nine criminal counts, including conspiracy, fraudulent schemes and artifices, fraudulent schemes and practices, and six counts of forgery.<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/24604435-arizona-indictments?responsive=1&amp;title=1\">The indictment names the 11 Republican electors,<\/a> and the names of seven other defendants are redacted. Those individuals have not yet been served, but details in the indictment make clear they include top Trump aides, including Rudy Giuliani and Mark Meadows.<\/p>\n<p>These are the 11 Arizonans who signed documents claiming to be legitimate electors for Trump, though Democrat Joe Biden won Arizona&#8217;s votes in the electoral college. The nonprofit got its start advocating for conservative politics at high schools and universities, but it and its affiliated organizations have grown to become influential in the conservative culture wars. They have also drawn controversy for spreading false information, including about elections.<\/p>\n<p>Bowyer is a committeeman for the Republican National Committee. He told The Arizona Republic in 2022 about the so-called fake elector plot, that he didn&#8217;t know &#8220;all the details and facts&#8221; but confirmed he was an elector for the state GOP.<\/p>\n<p><media-gallery-promo asset-id=\"73420572007\" class=\"column ten-column no-gutter spacer-large\"><\/media-gallery-promo><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"presto-h2 wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Nancy_Cottle\"><\/span>Nancy Cottle<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Cottle chaired the Arizona Trump electors.<\/p>\n<p>She was also subpoenaed by the House Select Committee investigating the riot at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Cottle has served on the Arizona GOP Executive Committee and Maricopa County Republican Committee. She led the Pledge of Allegiance at a rally for former President Donald Trump in January 2022 in Florence, Ariz.<\/p>\n<p><media-gallery-promo asset-id=\"6543217001\" class=\"column ten-column no-gutter spacer-large\"><\/media-gallery-promo><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"presto-h2 wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Jake_Hoffman\"><\/span>Jake Hoffman<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/news\/politics\/arizona\/2023\/09\/13\/jake-hoffman-what-to-know-about-fake-elector-freedom-caucus-leader\/70789224007\/\">Hoffman, of Queen Creek,<\/a> is a state senator first elected to the Legislature in 2020. He is the founder of the Arizona Freedom Caucus, the political coalition that includes the state&#8217;s most conservative lawmakers. Many of those lawmakers are aligned with Trump and the group generally supports conservative policies on <a href=\"https:\/\/buradabiliyorum.com\/en\/category\/social-mediaa\/\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"Social Media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">social<\/a> issues.<\/p>\n<partner-banner util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" fluid=\"\" bottom=\"\" lazy=\"\" class=\"spacer-large\" min-height=\"600\" outstream=\"\" momentum=\"\"><\/partner-banner><partner-inline util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" class=\"spacer-large\" placement=\"native-article_link\" sizes=\"[[300, 250], [3, 3]]\" min-height=\"250\" fluid=\"\" outstream=\"\"><\/partner-inline>\n<p>Hoffman is <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/news\/politics\/arizona\/2023\/09\/25\/hobbs-pulls-agency-director-nominees-in-protest-of-senate-panels-work\/70965302007\/\">a top antagonist of Democratic Gov. Katie Hobbs<\/a> and is no stranger to criticizing Republicans he views as too moderate.<\/p>\n<p>He announced earlier this year he would run to represent Arizona on the Republican National Committee, and he is seeking another term representing Legislative District 15 in the Arizona Senate, which includes Queen Creek, San Tan Valley and a portion of Mesa. First elected to the Arizona Legislature in 2015, he is now running for a seat in Congress in a packed GOP primary.<\/p>\n<p>He was fired a decade ago from the El Mirage Police Department in Phoenix&#8217;s northwest suburbs for lying to a supervisor after a string of disciplinary issues and put on a roll of officers accused of dishonesty called the Brady list.<\/p>\n<p>Kern has brushed off questions about the electors&#8217; case, saying he didn&#8217;t need a lawyer. Lamon, a steady financial supporter of Republican causes and candidates, helped bankroll security for the Arizona Senate&#8217;s much-criticized review of ballots cast in 2020.<\/p>\n<partner-banner util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" fluid=\"\" bottom=\"\" lazy=\"\" class=\"spacer-large\" min-height=\"390\" outstream=\"\"><\/partner-banner><partner-inline util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" class=\"spacer-large\" placement=\"native-article_link\" sizes=\"[[300, 250], [3, 3]]\" min-height=\"250\" fluid=\"\" outstream=\"\"><\/partner-inline>\n<p>In 2022, Lamon <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/news\/politics\/arizona\/2022\/01\/30\/us-senate-candidate-jim-lamon-explains-false-trump-elector-claim\/9280572002\/\">claimed during an interview with KTVK-TV in Phoenix that the electors were part of a backup plan<\/a> in case Trump&#8217;s election fraud claims proved successful.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Republican electors put forth a valid document that said, in the event that the election certification was overturned, there would be no excuse not to recognize those electors,\u201d Lamon said.<\/p>\n<p>The documents themselves did not include such conditional language, however.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"presto-h2 wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Robert_Montgomery\"><\/span>Robert Montgomery<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Montgomery is a former head of the Cochise County Republican Committee. He led GOP leadership in Arizona&#8217;s rural southeast corner until he was defeated by a surprise challenger in December 2022. Montgomery has supported hand-counting ballots and pushed county leaders to ignore warnings about doing so before the 2022 election.<\/p>\n<p><media-gallery-promo asset-id=\"9052798002\" class=\"column ten-column no-gutter spacer-large\"><\/media-gallery-promo><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"presto-h2 wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Samuel_Moorhead\"><\/span>Samuel Moorhead<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Moorhead was the second vice chair of the Gila County Republican Party when he signed as a Trump elector, a ranking but not top position in the local Republican Party in one of Arizona&#8217;s rural counties northeast of metro Phoenix.<\/p>\n<partner-banner util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" fluid=\"\" bottom=\"\" lazy=\"\" class=\"spacer-large\" min-height=\"390\" outstream=\"\"><\/partner-banner>\n<p>Moorhead served 17 years on the board of the Gila County Provisional Community College District before resigning in October to move closer to his daughter and grandson elsewhere in Arizona, according to meeting minutes.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"presto-h2 wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Loraine_Pellegrino\"><\/span>Loraine Pellegrino<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Pellegrino was secretary for the Arizona Trump electors and has a long history of leadership in state GOP politics. She has led two conservative groups, the Arizona Federation of Republican Women, and the\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/ahwatukeerepublicanwomen.com\/index.html\">Ahwatukee Republican Women&#8217;s Club,<\/a> and was a delegate to Republican National Committee conventions in 2012, 2016 and 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Pellegrino was\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.azcentral.com\/story\/news\/politics\/arizona\/2022\/01\/28\/fake-arizona-trump-electors-subpoenaed-by-congress\/9258968002\/\">subpoenaed<\/a>\u00a0by the House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol. Four years later he went to work for GOP Congressman Andy Biggs&#8217; campaign, ultimately becoming deputy chief of staff.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"presto-h2 wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Kelli_Ward\"><\/span>Kelli Ward<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Kelli Ward is a past chair of the Arizona GOP. She helped to organize the signing of the fake electors, sat at the head of the table during the &#8220;signing&#8221; video and\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/kelliwardaz\/status\/1338596143807123457?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1338596143807123457%7Ctwgr%5E3ed3e47e2af0d68e82ce4274771fbf3517db856c%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.12news.com%2Farticle%2Fnews%2Flocal%2Farizona%2Fjan-6-committee-subpoenas-arizona-republicans-linked-to-filing-of-phony-electors-heres-what-we-know%2F75-5eb43e23-6a4d-4a8c-aec9-1daf156dc440\">boasted about the moment on Twitter<\/a>, The Arizona Republic has previously reported.<\/p>\n<p>Ward was also subpoenaed by the Jan. 6 committee related to the elector scheme and exercised her Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate herself more than 200 times when later testifying before that committee.<\/p>\n<partner-banner util-module-path=\"elements\/partner\" fluid=\"\" bottom=\"\" lazy=\"\" class=\"spacer-large\" min-height=\"390\" outstream=\"\"><\/partner-banner>\n<p>She is an outspoken supporter of Trump&#8217;s and a promoter of election conspiracies who helped Trump aides in their efforts to pressure GOP leaders in Arizona and filed multiple lawsuits trying to overturn Trump&#8217;s loss in 2020.
