Is the data accurate?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"bialty-container\">\nStatcounter has updated its search engine market share stats for April \u2013 and the results are shocking. If they\u2019re true. I\u2019m doubtful \u2013\u00a0but hoping Statcounter will confirm whether these numbers are indeed accurate.<\/p>\n<p><strong>By the numbers. <\/strong>Google\u2019s U.S. search market share in the U.S. fell to 77.52% in April, down from 86.94% in March and down from 88.8% in April 2023. Meanwhile:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Microsoft Bing grew to 13.05% in April, up from 8.04% in March.<\/li>\n<li>Yahoo (!) grew to 7.3%, up from 2.48% in March.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>See why I\u2019m skeptical yet? How are Microsoft Bing and Yahoo growing that much in one month? <\/p>\n<p><!-- \/1038259\/SEL_Post-text --><\/p>\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1693000027709-0\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"post-break\"><\/div>\n<p>But wait, there\u2019s more.<\/p>\n<p>Google\u2019s global search engine market share dropped from 91.38% in March to 86.99% in April. Meanwhile:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Microsoft Bing grew to 5.8% in April, up from 3.35% in March. <\/li>\n<li>Yahoo grew to 3.06% in April, up from 1.1% in March.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are other unexplainable swings \u2013\u00a0some bigger than others \u2013 found in other regions as well, based on Statcounter\u2019s data.<\/p>\n<p><strong>But. <\/strong>Before you start cheering, the data seems suspect. Some are expecting Statcounter to \u201ccorrect\u201d these figures because these sorts of big swings seem impossible and unprecedented.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why we care.<\/strong> My first thought after seeing these numbers was: <em>they seem wrong<\/em>. User behavior doesn\u2019t change this rapidly.
