\n Saturday Night Live<\/em>\u2018s latest cold open centered on Columbia University\u2019s handling of the pro-Palestinian protests on campus amid the Israel\u2013Hamas war.<\/p>\n

\n During the sketch, Mikey Day, Kenan Thompson and Heidi Gardner played concerned parents of students participating in the protests.<\/p>\n

\n Last week, hundreds of demonstrators were arrested after the school\u2019s president called the New York Police Department to help restore order on campus. Police cleared the university\u2019s Hamilton Hall after protesters occupied the administration building earlier in the day.<\/p>\n

\n After being asked their thoughts on the protests, Gardner initially responded, \u201cIt\u2019s been tough. Now, I\u2019m all for free speech, but I don\u2019t understand what they think they\u2019re accomplishing and that\u2019s really putting a strain on me and my daughter\u2019s relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Thompson later shared his thoughts: \u201cNothing makes me prouder than young people using their voices to fight for what they believe in.\u201d However, once Michael Longfellow\u2019s Ryan Aper expressed that his daughter must feel very supported by him when protesting, his tone completely changed.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cNah man, you bugging. Alexis Vanessa Roberts better have her butt in class. Let me find out she in one of them damn tents instead of the dorm room that I pay for,\u201d Thompson snapp<\/a>ed, as Longfellow noted, \u201cI thought you were in favor of the student protest.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n \u201cMan, I am supportive of y\u2019all\u2019s<\/em> kids protesting, not my kid,\u201d Thompson added. \u201cMy kid knows better. Shoot Alexis Vanessa ain\u2019t crazy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Longfellow proceeded to ask the parents if they were worried about the increased police presence, and their children potentially getting arrested.<\/p>\n

\n While Gardner said, \u201cOne of my worst fears is my daughter getting thrown behind bars,\u201d it\u2019s safe to say Thompson felt different.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cI ain\u2019t worried about Five-O, that is not my business,\u201d he said. \u201cMy business is Alexis Vanessa Roberts. OK? She ain\u2019t talking about no free this, free that, because I tell you what ain\u2019t free, Columbia. Do you all know that they got the nerve to want $68,000 a year?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n He continued, \u201cI\u2019m out here busting my hump to pay all that tuition. Girl, I do it all. Uber all day, Uber Eats all night, cut grass on the weekends, sell Gucci wallets out of my trunk, life coaching on IG. I bounty hunt whenever possible. All of that just so she can say she got a degree in African American studies. It\u2019s like, little girl, you\u2019ve been Black your whole life. You know what it is.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n When it was also noted that some universities were canceling their commencement ceremonies due to the protests, Thompson quickly pushed back.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cI don\u2019t think you get it. Alexis Vanessa will be graduated, even if I gotta do it myself,\u201d he said. \u201cYou better believe I\u2019m gonna be in there hooting and hollering after they explicitly told us to wait till the end.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Later, during SNL<\/em>\u2018s \u201cWeekend Update,\u201d Unfrosted<\/em> director and star Jerry Seinfeld made a surprise appearance to discuss doing \u201cexcessive press\u201d for projects.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cI know I can\u2019t undo all the press I\u2019ve done, but I want to help other people,\u201d he said. \u201cIf you\u2019re struggling with press, you\u2019re not alone. I\u2019m talking to you, Ryan Gosling. When I started doing press for Unfrosted<\/em>, I was like you: funny, good-looking. Now look at me. You think this is how I wanted to spend my 26th birthday? But you can get clean.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Dua Lipa also made her SNL<\/em> debut as host and musical guest on the latest episode.<\/p>\n
