But <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/plethor_x\/\">Plethor X<\/a>\u2019s hard-hitting, heady creations are anything but escapist. Instead, Italian sound designer Giovanni Isgr\u00f2 and Jermay Michael Gabriel \u2014 an \u201cItalian-Ethiopian-Eritrean trans-disciplinary artist and curator,\u201d according to an online bio \u2014 engage critically with East Africa\u2019s colonial history while simultaneously imagining a united and utopian future for a region deeply scarred by European exploitation. <\/p>\n<div class=\"\" style=\"padding-bottom: 20px; margin-top: 20px; text-align: left;\">\n<\/div>\n<p>            Neither do Isgr\u00f2 and Gabriel, who are both currently based in Milan, shy away from their own ingrained Eurocentrism. The sampled vocalist then proceeds to recite almost every conceivable permutation of the n-word as the underlying beat grows steadily less silly and more infectious. Entering this spartan setting with admirable ease, Bologna-based Eritrean artist <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.munamussie.com\/\">Muna Mussie<\/a> recites fragments of Tigrinya nursery rhymes, her voice a calming presence in the melee rather than a separate entity anointing the instrumental from above.
