\n Zayn Malik said this week he regrets not taking time to app<\/a>reciate his time with boy band One Direction, adding that he\u2019s \u201cable to happier now.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n \u201cThe main thing that I always feel bad about when I look back over my life is not enjoying the band enough,\u201d Malik said on the\u00a0Zach Sang Show<\/em><\/a>. \u201cI feel like I just took things too seriously, you know? I\u2019m grateful that I\u2019m able to be happier now. I can actually enjoy things and own my own perspective a bit, you know? Like, glass half full versus it being half empty. That\u2019s my choice.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n Malik shocked the world when he departed the mega-popular British boy band in 2015. A year later, the group \u2014 which also included Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson \u2014 went on an indefinite hiatus. <\/p>\n

\n Malik was, like his bandmates, just a teenager when Simon Cowell formed the group on the U.K.\u2019s X-Factor<\/em>. He said this week that his younger self \u201cdidn\u2019t understand the importance of just trying to be happy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n \u201cI had this, like, teen angst thing going on \u2014 chip on my shoulder,\u201d he added. \u201cI\u2019m like, \u2018It\u2019s really cool to be moody as fuck all the time\u2026.\u2019 It\u2019s not. Like, you\u2019re just a loser. Let\u2019s be honest, you know what I mean?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Since then, he said, he\u2019s learned: \u201cYou should be a nice person. You should be somebody that people want to be around and enjoy being in your presence, and you should bring light to peoples\u2019 day instead of being this fuck.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n Part of the growth, he added, came from becoming a father to his daughter Khai, whom he shares with ex Gigi Hadid. <\/p>\n

\n \u201cShe just makes me happier,\u201d he said. \u201cI have so much love in me that I didn\u2019t have before she was born. She laughs all day. She wants to do the silliest things, and she gains so much excitement from it, you know? She just has a whole fresh perspective on life, [which] had somewhat become gray for me.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
