It also lets you draw the best conclusions for designing, refocusing and defining your digital strategies.<\/p>\n<p>GA4 users can configure many functionalities, including custom dimensions, which allow for more detailed and personalized data analysis.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-are-dimensions-in-ga4\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_are_dimensions_in_GA4\"><\/span>What are dimensions in GA4?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Google defines a dimension as an attribute of your data. Google provides a <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/analytics\/table\/13594742?sjid=1212279526727863729-EU\">list of all these event parameters<\/a> created automatically or enhanced measurement.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Custom parameters<\/strong>: These allow you to collect information that is not captured by default. This applies to <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/analytics\/answer\/9267735?hl=en&amp;ref_topic=13367566&amp;sjid=12846188927219766658-EU\">recommended events<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/analytics\/answer\/12229021?hl=en&amp;ref_topic=13367566&amp;sjid=5089282585312313517-EU\">custom events<\/a>, where custom settings are required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-are-ga4-custom-dimensions\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_are_GA4_custom_dimensions\"><\/span>What are GA4 custom dimensions?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Custom dimensions are attributes that allow you to describe and collect data in a customized way. Essentially, they are parameters you create in GA4 to capture information that is not automatically tracked by the tool.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-types-of-custom-dimensions\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Types_of_custom_dimensions\"><\/span>Types of custom dimensions<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Depending on the information that you want to collect in a custom way, you can create different types of custom dimensions, as indicated by Google:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/analytics\/answer\/14239618\"><strong>User-scoped custom dimensions<\/strong><\/a> let you analyze user-related attributes that describe groups of your user base, such as age, language or country.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/analytics\/answer\/14239696\"><strong>Event-scoped custom dimensions<\/strong><\/a> refer to interactions that happen on your website. It could be any event parameter created for the recommended events or custom events, such as <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/analytics\/devguides\/collection\/ga4\/reference\/events#generate_lead\">generate_lead<\/a> or <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/analytics\/devguides\/collection\/ga4\/reference\/events#login\">login<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/analytics\/answer\/14239695\"><strong>Item-scoped custom dimensions<\/strong><\/a>, used mainly for ecommerce websites or apps, allow for deeper analysis of item-related information, such as <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/analytics\/devguides\/collection\/ga4\/reference\/events#add_to_cart\">add_to_cart<\/a> or <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/analytics\/devguides\/collection\/ga4\/reference\/events#purchase\">purchase<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-when-is-it-recommended-to-create-custom-dimensions\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"When_is_it_recommended_to_create_custom_dimensions\"><\/span>When is it recommended to create custom dimensions?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Before creating custom dimensions to analyze data in more detail, it is advisable to check whether these attributes already exist as automatic events predefined by GA4 or as options within enhanced measurement events.<\/p>\n<p>To determine if the data you want to analyze is already provided by automatic events, you can consult the list that Google Analytics offers under <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/support.google.com\/analytics\/answer\/9234069\">Automatically collected events<\/a>.
