But it won\u2019t really be fully done until after July 5.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cThe small set of sites we\u2019ve still been crawling with desktop Googlebot will be crawled with mobile Googlebot after July 5, 2024,\u201d John Mueller from Google\u00a0<a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/developers.google.com\/search\/blog\/2024\/06\/mobile-indexing-vlast-final-final.doc?hl=en\">wrote<\/a>\u00a0on the Google blog.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mueller explained:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cThe largest part of the web is already being crawled like this, and there is no change in crawling for these sites.\u201d However, \u201cafter July 5, 2024, we\u2019ll crawl and index these sites with only Googlebot Smartphone.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>So if your site is not accessible using a mobile device, then Google \u201cwill no longer\u201d index it and thus rank it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mobile accessibility is required for Google indexing. <\/strong>Yes, Mueller wrote, \u201cIf your site\u2019s content is not accessible at all with a mobile device, it will no longer be indexable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is a long time coming. Google has finally drawn a line in the sand for sites that simply do not render on mobile.<\/p>\n<p>This doesn\u2019t mean Google won\u2019t index your site if it isn\u2019t mobile-friendly. What Google is saying is that if your site simply does not render or load on mobile devices, then Google won\u2019t index it. <\/p>\n<p>If you have a desktop template only, it is fine, assuming the desktop version loads on a mobile device.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some desktop crawling to continue. <\/strong>Google said that Google still sometimes uses the Googlebot Desktop crawler for product listings and for Google for Jobs. This means you may still see Googlebot Desktop in your server logs and reporting tools.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why we care. <\/strong>For most of you, this probably won\u2019t be an issue. But if someone hires you to do some SEO on their site and their site does not load on your Android phone or iPhone, then it may also not be crawled and indexed by Google after July 5.
