\n Pat McAfee took to social media<\/a> on Monday to apologize for referring to Indiana Fever basketball star Caitlin Clark as a \u201cwhite bitch\u201d during a segment on his ESPN show. <\/p>\n

\n \u201cI shouldn\u2019t have used \u2018white bitch\u2019 as a descript<\/a>or of Caitlin Clark,\u201d McAfee wrote on Twitter.<\/a> \u201cNo matter the context.. even if we\u2019re talking about race being a reason for some of the stuff happening.. I have way too much respect for her and women to put that into the universe. My intentions when saying it were complimentary just like the entire segment but, a lot of folks are saying that it certainly wasn\u2019t at all. That\u2019s 100% on me and for that I apologize.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n McAfee noted he had also sent a personal apology to Clark, and that the rest of his speech was \u201cstill alllllll facts.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Earlier on Monday, McAfee appeared on his ESPN show arguing that Clark is the singular reason behind the WBNA\u2019s surge in popularity and addressing claims that her race is what sets her apart. <\/p>\n

\n \u201cWhat we\u2019re trying to say is, what the WNBA currently has is what we like to describe as a cash cow. There is a superstar,\u201d McAfee said. \u201cBut I would like the media people that continue to say, \u2018This rookie class, this rookie class.\u2019 Nah, just call it for what it is. There is one white bitch for the Indiana team who is a superstar.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Clark was the No. 1 WNBA draft pick earlier this year, after rising to stardom while playing for the Indiana University Hawkeyes.<\/p>\n

\n \u201cIs there a chance people just enjoy watching her play basketball because of how electrifying she is, what she did what she stood for, how she went about going what she went for?\u201d McAfee said. \u201cMaybe. But instead, we have to hear people say we only like her because she\u2019s white, and she\u2019s only popular because the rest of the rookie class is doing what they\u2019re doing. Well, that\u2019s a bunch of bullshit and we think the WNBA \u2014 more specifically their refs \u2014 need to stop trying to screw her over at every single turn. What you have is somebody special, and we\u2019re lucky she\u2019s here in Indiana.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n Though his speech was complimentary, the pejorative term was met with backlash online. <\/p>\n

\n \u201cThis is just completely unacceptable,\u201d ESPN analyst Kim Adams\u00a0wrote on X, formerly Twitter<\/a>. \u201cInterested to see how ESPN handles it. And his entire argument is not conducive to anything going on in the WNBA right now. Just let the women hoop.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n ESPN did not immediately respond to The Hollywood Reporter<\/em>\u2018s request for comment. <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
