\n Jon Stewart slammed the media<\/a>\u2019s response to Donald Trump\u2018s hush money conviction during The Daily Show<\/em> on Monday, criticizing conservative outlets\u2019 denial of the trial\u2019s legitimacy and denouncing both sides\u2019 polarized coverage of the event. <\/p>\n

\n Last Thursday, a New York jury found the former president guilty on all 34 counts of falsifying business records after weeks of testimony from a former tabloid publisher, a Hollywood fixer, Trump\u2019s former lawyer and a porn star. He will be sentenced on July 11. <\/p>\n

\n In response to Republican commentators\u2019 claims that the trial was rigged, Stewart said: \u201cYes, we impaneled grand juries and submitted evidence and cross-examined witnesses\u2026 But how was Donald Trump or his family not allowed on the jury? Outrageous!\u201d <\/p>\n

\n Later, while discussing the media\u2019s weaponization of the court system, Stewart said, \u201cMaybe our justice system wasn\u2019t a sham, but certainly app<\/a>lying our justice system to Donald Trump was<\/em>.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n He continued, \u201cTo admit their own political game<\/a>smanship, their own attempts at weaponizing justice, their own relentless pursuit of opponents, their own dehumanizing rhetoric towards the left would be to allow a molecule of reality into the airtight distortion field that has been created to protect Magadonians from the harsh glare of actuality. It is a place where a moment such as this next one can pass without so much as a gasp of, \u2018What planet do you live on?\u2019 For it, it\u2019s clearly not ours.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n Stewart also addressed Democratic response to the trial, saying the aftermath \u201cwas an exercise in concealed and controlled glee\u201d and that the party\u2019s challenge will now be figuring out how to \u201cexploit the moment politically without giving the impression that this was the plan all along.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n He also poked fun at Biden\u2019s viral press conference moment from Friday, when the president turned and smiled blankly at the press pool as he was leaving the room. \u201cWhy does everything have to be so weird?\u201d Stewart asked, calling the scene a \u201cCheshire cat press conference.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n Stewart concluded his monologue with a harsh takedown of the media at large, arguing that both sides of the spectrum too often allow politicians to litigate issues on television, rather than in courthouses. <\/p>\n

\n \u201cOur political leaders are not in court, they are here on TV, where the news<\/a> media has decided that there\u2019s really no such thing as reality.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n Stewart then played a montage of news anchors alleging that Democratic and Republican Americans are now living in two separate realities. Stewart told the audience he disagrees with this idea entirely. <\/p>\n

\n \u201cNo, you\u2019re thinking of the multiverse,\u201d Stewart said. \u201cWe are all living in one reality, and it can be the news media\u2019s job to litigate the parameters of said reality. What the courts do really well is look backward and reconstruct the realities of what happened. The news media could do the same, but what they do instead is look forward and wildly speculate on the future.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
